How long did you have to wait to get into nursing school?

I have been on the waiting list for the ADN program since February, 2003 and can't wait to actually start the ADN program!!! How long did you have to wait before getting into the program? Were you able to start sooner than you expected to?:) Thank you for any information you can share with me.

At my school there are no acceptance guidelines except that you have to pass your 4 science pre-reqs with a 2.5 and have English 101 and the Math placement test. At that point you go to the nursing office, they check your grades and if everything's okay you are in, and then they put your name on the waitlist. Easy really, but the waiting list is now 3 semesters :uhoh3: I applied March '04 and they said I should expect to clear the waitlist by Feb '06.

We are the best community college in CA for nursing, though, regardless of the fairly loose entry requirements. They said they go through 100 people just to find a class of 30, every semester, because so many people defer or have lost interest. The graduation rate is 60% and 95% pass NCLEX boards on the first try.

There is no waiting list at my school, either you are accepted or you have to apply again next semester. I was accepted on my first try, but I had a 4.0 GPA. I believe the lowest GPA they accepted was a 3.75. If your GPA is lower than that, you have retake classes until your GPA is high enough to be accepted.

2 years and that was in 82. My son is on a 2 to 3 year waiting list but taking alot of other classes in the meantime. Hard to wait. Works for him though as he works full time nights at the hospital as a PCA.

I will apply this Dec. and find out next May. I should get in since I have all prereqs done and high GPA:p . They only have a 2 month a year application period and only start in the Fall. I SHOULD be in the Fall 2005 group.

I applied in February 2004 and received the acceptance letter in March 2004.

the best community college in CA for nursing
which college is that?

edit: nevermind!

I applied to Gordon College Feb 04 and got my acceptance letter in May 04. Our school does have a waiting list but I have no idea how long it is. It wasn't required for us to take the NET test. I assume they accept students based on their gpa and the essay we had to write. My gpa is a meager 3.0 but my essay was the BOMB. This is the second nursing program I got accepted in, the first was Georgia Perimeter College. I chose Gordon because they have a better pass rate on the NCLEX and I heard that Perimeter didn't have a good program.

At my old school, it is approximately 3 year wait for ADN. I am 500 on the wait list. I here it is up 600s now. they take 160 per year. ick. I transferred and got in with no wait

Hi! I was eligible last spring for the nursing program (all pre reqs, gpa, etc) and didnt get accepted until this fall. My school fills up fast, so everyone waits a semester or two. Dont lose hope-everyone seems to have to wait now days.

Thank you all for your wonderful replies and information. I think I will call the school tommorrow to see where I am on the waiting list. I am really getting excited and just can't wait to start.:)

i was extremely lucky and blessed because as soon as i made up my mind that i wanted to become a nurse and get my bsn i found out that one of the local universities was opening up a satellite campus 5 minutes from my home. i found out just in time because the nursing program was beginning 2 months after i found out about it. luckily, since the campus was new and not highly publicized until it opened, i was able to get in very easily. it also happened right before i was planning to move to another state and apply for a nursing program. this program was also great too because i was accepted without having all my prereques done and i've finished them along the way, which will allow me to graduate a year and a half earlier (assuming i got in on the first attempt at the other school) than i would had i moved as i'd originally planned. sometimes life can be full of unexpected surprises. when you least expect it something good will happen. be confident and strong. don't give up! good luck!! :)
