I have been on the waiting list for the ADN program since February, 2003 and can't wait to actually start the ADN program!!! How long did you have to wait before getting into the program? Were you able to start sooner than you expected to?:) Thank you for any information you can share with me.

HopefulRN2be,

I just graduated from an ADN program in May. I have to say that getting in to nursing school depends on where you apply and when you apply. I don't know where you live or where you are trying to go to school. However, some schools, like OU in Chillecothe, OH, will take two nursing classes each school year. They will start one in the fall and one in the spring. The school I attended only accepted new students in the fall. You should check on a few of things. One: What is the usual pattern for acceptance at your school of choice? Does everyone go on a waiting list? How long do they usually have to wait? Two: What is the status of your application? Go into the office at your school and find out. Maybe it was lost, accidentally thrown away, misplaced, misprocessed, etc. Don't let them forget about you. Third: What other schools are in your area? You may want to consider other options. Just a bit of friendly advice. :)

A little added note: It helps and sometimes is required to have a good ACT score (20-25, maybe). Also, good grades are really helpful. I guess I was fortunate in that respect.

i live in illinois. i started school last summer 2003 and i apllied for fall 2004. i got accepted and i was able to take some summer classes now.

i did evaluation my H.S. diploma from my native country first. my school accepted it and i did not have to take most of the general courses (chem, bio, math). i took A&P, psych, soc, com and other the most important for them to get to program. at my school they have point ranking, so better your grade, more required courses you take, better GPA, more credit hours, faster you will get into. i wait to start only one year, but i know people who wait 2 or more. it depends on situation you are and how quickly you wil pass requirements.

good luck to you. :)

I applied to my ADN program in May 2003 and got accepted for the January 2005 class. But I got a call in June this year to start this August. So I am getting to start a semester earlier than I thought. :) Still a long wait, but worth it.

As posted above I guess it depends on where you are. I live in south central Ky. and the two schools in my area does not have a wating list. Your acceptance is based on the NLN (national league of nursing) test and your gpa only. Both schools only accept twenty or so students and hundreds apply. If your scores are not high enough you simply do not get in. One of the schools does base their acceptance on an essay and interview also in addition to testing and gpa. I guess each place/school is a little different. I will share the cutoff at one school was a gpa 3.77 and catg. 1 (90th percentile)on the NLN.Good Luck CRB613

There are two nursing schools in my town and they are both very very difficult to get into. To get in, they go by a point system based on your pre-req grade. The list of students waiting to get in has gotten so long, you basically have to have a 4.0 to get in. Fortuntely I had all A's and got in on the first try. My school had over 200 applicants for 60 spots...

No waiting list at my school, just a lot of prereqs and very expensive!

Where I go you can get on a waiting list as soon as you are done with the prereqs (A&P, College Algebra, and Psy). I put my name on the list in July of 2003 and got my acceptance letter for fall of 2004 in June of 2004. It is about a one year waiting period AFTER your prereqs are finished.

I appiled last August to my university's BSN nursing program last September (2003) for the Spring semester but I didn't get accecpted. I re-applied in April for the Fall semester of this year and got it. I start classes August 30th. So I've been wating for 2 semesters, and I had finished my pre-reqs in December of 03'.

Our school doesn't have a waiting list, per se. You fill out the application, you take the entrance test, and if you're in the top 30 scores on the entrance test, you're in. I applied in November, took the test in February, and in April I found out I made it in for fall of '04.
