How long did it take you to get into nursing school?

What was your gpa? I'll be applying next year :) Thanks everyone!

I go to FCCJ as well.

I just finished my last prereqs and am applying for RN program for Summer semester.

I took 4 semesters to get the 9 or 10 classes. Could have got done faster, but I wanted to spread the hard classes out to make it easier on me. Last 2 semesters, I only had 2 classes each. They were my A&P classes. microbiology, and chemistry.

I agree witih some of the other posters. Make sure that you are aware and complete all of the prereqs for each school, because many of them vary. Some courses weren't offered at the school I transferred from, so I ended up having to take an equivilant, which set me a semester behind. But I applied to several nursing schools in the area, and got accepted the first round! :)

Hi Guys!

Let see I started my pre-reqs in Spring 2008. I went full-time spring, summer and fall semesters for all of 2008 and 2009. Taking classes in the summer just killed me. I will not lie. I have a 3.94 gpa but I worked my butt of for it. My summer was lost but it was worth it.

I now have all of my pre-reqs done and am applying to the program at my school next week. My school works on a points system for admission, using everything from completion of pre-reqs to GPA to if you live in the district of the school, and for the traditional full-time program you have to apply between Jan and March 1st and if accepted you start either Fall of the same year or Spring of the next. The first person accepted starts Fall the next Spring and they go on down the list.

Around 2000 people apply each year for the 120 seats the program offers. It is a hard program to get into.

So depending on when I start I will finish either Spring 2012 or Fall 2012. That is a total of 4 1/2 years for a ADN with 2 semesters of waiting time. It took me two years to finish up pre-reqs (starting from scratch after being out of school for 8 years) and then another 2 years for the nursing program.

But even after all of the waiting it is so worth it in my mind. I have suffered and my family has suffered but it will all work out in the end. My daughter will be graduating from the 6th grade when I graduate from college!

It was a long road for me, but luckily I am young. I figured out mid-way through my junior year of college that I wanted to be a nurse. However, it would take way to long to switch my major to nursing at that point so I just decided to graduate with my bachelors degree as soon as possible. I picked psychology because it was quick, easy, and relevant to nursing practice.

I graduated in March of 2009 and didn't have much of any science coursework yet because my schedule was packed full of psychology courses.

In March of 2009 I started taking pre-nursing coursework. I took human anatomy, nurse aide training, medical terminology I, and ochem/biochem.

In June of 2009 I ran into a serious roadblock. I was a victim of a serious crime and I was initially charged with it before they realized I was a victim. The case was dismissed, but it still shows up on my record (as dismissed). It will take until June of 2011 for the record to be officially sealed.

I am currently taking pharmacology, medical terminology II, human nutrition, healthcare ethics, and biological anthropology.

I was supposed to start nursing school this coming August (2010) but they denied my admission until the dismissed case gets sealed and thus doesn't show up on my background check.

So, starting in March again I'm going to finish up prerequisite for a different nursing program that has a 1.5-2 year waiting list and hopefully my background check will be clean by then and I'll get to start at that program.

Trying to keep my attitude positive and look at moving forward in hopes of finally achieving my dream!

I started school in the fall of 2008, I was shut out of A&P I but had the psychology, sociology & english 101 classes from my previous degree (A.A.S). So in my first semester I took EN102 & Human Growth (which are not pre-reqs but required for the ADN. My second semester I took A &P II & speech, then took the PAX and applied at the end of that semester. I am in NYC and there is no waiting list, the nursing program at the CC I was going to apply to looks at your GPA for the pre-reqs and your Pax score. I was accepted and start the Sprng 2010 nursing program on Thursday! My GPA was 3.6

Started in march 2009 and took algebra, nutrition, and sociology. Thru the summer of 2009 I went full time and took composition 107, Anat/phys 1, chemistry and psychology. The fall semester I finished up the rest of my pre reqs with comp 110, micro, anat/phys ii and lifespan psych. I had a 4.0 gpa. Applied to 2 schools in the fall of 2009 for fall 2010 start. Got accepted to both on 1st try.

I'm graduating with my BA in May, then I start prerecs this summer and into the fall and spring semesters, hopefully starting in the summer (or fall, depending on the program I get into) 2011! I didn't decide on nursing until this past summer... I have a lot of work to do.

I started taking prereqs in January of 09. I took human anatomy and medical term. In the summer of 09, I took Chemistry. In the Fall of 09, I took micro and nutrition. I applied to school for ABSN in October 2009, and was accepted in January 2010 for the summer. I am currently taking the last 2 prereqs- physiology and pharmacology.

I applied direct entry from high school. All I have left for prereqs now are A&P 1 and 2. I took 1 last semester but withdrew because I wasn't going to get a C and I didn't want to ruin my GPA and still have to retake the class...so I'm retaking it this semester, will take A&P 2 this summer, and start nursing classes in the fall.

Nearly 3 years :(

Ended up with a 3.96 at my old college, and a 4.00 in my pre-reqs at my new college. Took too many years of my life, and its been stressful. I pray nursing is everything I've dreamed it will be, given all I've been through to get in N.S.

It took me a semester to complete the pre-reqs (I had completed most of them already in HS). I started the pre-reqs in August, finished in December, applied in December, and was admitted the next semester.

Wow thats a long time! same with me though lol.
