I already had a Bach degree in EE. I took pre-reqs for a year. Then I applied (1 semester of "down time" which I used to start master's pre-reqs!). I was accepted and started Summer 09.
My school doesn't have a waiting list.

I cannot stress enough knowing all of the rules used in admission to a (the one YOU want to attend) program. I saw many people extremely upset because they were either misled, or didn't fully understand what it took for eligibility. Because the program only starts in the fall, the essentially cost themselves another year of their lives with very little left to do school-wise. Talk to a counselor/ admissions specialist and ask what are their complete guidelines for entrance into their program. Then go see another counselor/ admissions specialist to make sure you're getting the same information and fully understand it. Avoiding any missteps could save you years in getting your degree.
This is probably comparing apple to oranges but, to answer your question:
With an Associate's Degree and many of the prereqs already done at a local community college, it took 1 year. During that year I had to "build up" credits for my particular University and finish the prereqs to be a candidate. To accrue hours I started and finished a minor in business. My GPA is 3.78, but I had to kill myself for the year to get it, because GPA is a tie-breaker in getting admitted to the program if you have the same number of credit hours.

Where are you attending that doesn't have a waiting list?! Every school in my area (California) the wait on average is 2-3 years.

I had a BS in biology with a 3.6 GPA and wanted to stop working in the lab (which I'd been doing for the past two years while not being admitted into med school). I found a Masters Entry program in June, was admitted to the program at the end of July, and started back in January of this year.
Caveat emptor: Masters Entry and similar programs tend not to play the waitlist games that many community college programs appear to. Some even admit only people they think will be able to succeed in the program and thus have a low attrition rate, rather than admitting just anybody and watching half the class drop out in the first few terms.
I live in FL. FSCJ (previously FCCJ) does not have a wait list. It is point based. You are in or you are not.
I met hubby in SC. He is still stationed there. I did not join him for 2 reasons: (1) I promised my youngest that she would only have to attend 1 HS and (2) SC schools have a waiting list. By the time I got accepted in SC, I would be done in FL! Besides, he will be deployed for the most part of next year - I will graduate in August...and my daughter starts her SR yr in HS that fall.
It will work out in the end.

It took me a year of pre-reqs (Spring, Summer and Fall 09) and I will be starting the RN program in Jan 2010 :) I totally agree about knowing exactly what your school's admission policy is. My school is on a point system, and knowing about that helped me a lot!

Oh my gosh my husband used to go to FSCJ when he was stationed there! I'm sorry to hear your husband will be deployed soon. As a Navy wife, I feel your pain! Best of luck to you!

I started my pre-reqs in August of 2008 and received my acceptance letter in October of 2009 for the January 2010 RN program. Our admission criteria is based on a point system, so only our pre-reqs were taken into consideration for acceptance into the programs.
Good luck to you!:)

I started my pre-reqs in Fall of 2002. Just obtained a General Studies AA in Summer 2009 - which was a requirement to apply to the Fast Track program starting Spring 2010. GPA was 3.9 and HESI A2 was 88%.
Did I get in? Well, they will not be sending out any notifications until after January 1, 2010.
