It took me two years to get in - August of 07 to August of 09. I started from scratch, taking CNA class while working full time, then quitting my job and going to school full time from 8/07 to 8/08 . I worked in a Nursing Home after completing the prereqs up through starting the nursing program.

That waiting time between applying for school then starting (6 months) is a killer.

My GPA was 4.0

I finished up with pre-reqs in Aug 2009. So, I've technically applied and thus, I wait. The list was 1000 people long when I got on it. My school goes by when you applied and got on the list and gives top priority to those who have also finished their core courses. Why they don't just call them pre-reqs is beyond me, as that's basically what they are. I'll be done with my core classes this Aug (2010) and will hopefully get in to the Spring 2011 class. That said they only accept about 200 per semester, so if there are more than 200 people who are completely done with their pre-reqs, I may not get in because of the date that I able to apply to the program (the August 2009 date). If they have more than one candidate that have applied on the same date and it comes down to one spot between one or more people it then goes by GPA for a tie breaker. I wish GPA meant more, when they say a minimum 2.5, they mean it - if it meant more it might boost me up the list some more.

I attended a private LPN/LVN program at a trade school that didn't pay attention to GPA or previous college level coursework. As long as you had the money and could pass a minimally difficult entrance exam, you got admitted.

I now attend a private LPN-to-RN transition ADN program at another trade school in a different state. Again, this school didn't pay attention to GPA or previous coursework. As long as you could pass the NET and could find a way to finance the schooling, you got admitted.

The first program I was in had their pre-reqs built into the program. The only criteria for entrance were the TEAS exam and an interview. I applied in late August and began classes in September. The person in admission told me the program was seeking accreditation. After my second quarter, the accreditation thing really didn't settle well with me. So, I researched the accrediting body to see if indeed the school was a candidate for accreditation only to find out that it was not. Needless to say, I left the school. None of my general education courses transferred (Anatomy and Physiology 1&2). I already have an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, so I decided to seek out second degree options. I found a school that begins January 2010. I applied in the summer, took the general education courses needed to start the program and I start in about four weeks.

From the research I have done, it seems as though it takes people two semesters to complete pre-reqs before the nursing program. This makes sense because you must have A&P 1 before taking A&P 2.

I have not applied yet and will not be until next fall. Both my friends are currently in ADN programs, one it took her 3 yrs :eek::eek:and the other one 2 years. Hopefully I get in on my first try. I only have chem left.

lol I love those face ^^

I started this summer and will hopefuly be applying for Spring of 2011. I had 2 classes I was able to transfer that I took back in 2000 though. My GPA is 3.8.

My school doesn't have a waiting list. You have to had completed the pre-reqs to sit for the NLN-PAX. We have an evening and day RN program. You take the PAX in March for the day program and in September for the evening program. They go on a point system for pre-reqs, PAX scores, previous courses completed at their school, etc. I applied in Oct. 09 and finished my pre-reqs in Dec. 09. I'll be contacted to sit for the PAX soon. If I pass my PAX, which I will, I'll start in Sept. 10. because I have a previous degree at this particular school which will increase my points. I have A's in my science pre-reqs and B's in Eng & Math pre-reqs.

I met with the Nursing Academic counselor and she explained the point system to me back in Sept. but I can't remember if being employed in the healthcare field or high GPA's add points but she told me that I had a very strong chance pending my last pre-req and I got an A so I'm pretty much waiting for the call.

Next semester I'm taking A&P 2 and Sociology. In the summer I'll take Micro so when I start the program I can just focus on the Nursing courses.

Best wishes to you !

11 days from my first call to the school to inquire about their nursing program until I was sitting in class.

It's gona take me 2 years/4 smstrs to do my pre-reqs starting spring 2010.

But Im thinking of enrolling in a LPN program Sept 2010 and transitioning to RN after.

Specializes in TCU.

My school works on a points system.

X # of points for previous degree (Associates, Bachelors, Masters)

X # of points for GPA.

X # of points for at least 3 mos. CNA experience.

X # of points for completion of pre-req's.

Highest priority given to applicants with previous degree, then they work their way down. I applied the first time Jan. 2008, and started Fall 2008, my GPA for acceptance was 3.25.

Good Luck!
