How long did it take you to get into your nursing program?

I am at a community college taking pre-reqs. I didn't pass the reading portion of the CPT (super hard, btw) so I have to take a reading class and take the CPT again. After I pass I will be put onto the nursing list for the program. I will start Nursing 1. I will take the test this spring semester so I will be put onto the list at the end of spring. How long do you think it will take to get into the program? This isn't like actual nursing schools where it takes a long time to get in. My mom said it took her 2 semesters and she was starting Nursing 1. . so *crossing fingers* HOPEFULLY I will be in by next spring.

My program moved away from the waiting list. I think it was between 1 and two years when they had it. Now you apply and either your in the next semester or you can reapply for the following semester. I applied in march, was accepted in April and started in August

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

I took two years to do my pre-reqs and transfer courses for the University. I got in on my first try. They use a merit based system.

Specializes in Oncology, Palliative care.

After I finished my pre-reqs I had to apply 3 times (the first semester after they weren't taking new apps as they were switching to a lottery system rather than a waiting list). Our program is a pure lottery but you do get your name in an additional time for each time you applied before. So the third time my name was in the hat 3 times. I got picked as an alternate, but just got called last week saying I was in for January.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I took a shortcut by attending an RN program at a for-profit trade school that will admit virtually anyone who has the ability to somehow pay the tuition. It took a whopping 2 months to get accepted into this particular school of nursing.

Took me a couple of years to do the pre-reqs (working full time) and then got into the nursing program on my first try. Community college. Points system based on test scores, grades, and one point for living in the same county as the school.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I started pre-req's in early 2007 and got into the program for Fall 2008 on my second application. I go to a state college; competitive BSN (accepts based on GPA and nothing else), 6 semesters of nursing courses, and the school has a 97% NCLEX pass rate.

(And did I mention, full time tuition is just over $5000/year?....I really scored! :D)

Specializes in L&D/Maternity nursing.

it took me about a year and a half to take the pre-reqs (I took one a semester, summer included) because I was working full time. But once those were done and I applied, I was accepted 2 months later and started 4 months after applying.

Specializes in Med Surg/MICU/Pediatrics/PCICU.

it took me 2 and 1/2 years but i finally got in and start this coming march!

It took me 3 years to get my prereqs part time while working. I got right in the nursing program since I was already a LPN. Ours is based on a point system and you have to apply each semester. You could get in right away or have to wait a year or longer.

Good luck to you!!!

I went into the Nursing Program right after highschool.....

I did pre-reqs for a year and a half including the summer ( i worked fulltime). I start the program in Jan 2010 :) They based acceptance on the TEAS test.
