Interesting. Where I'm going you have to complete all your gen ed and prereqs first.

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

I started in Oct and I'll finish my pre-reqs on Aug 2nd for the CC I want to go to. But I will continue my gen ed classes while I wait. Bio 156, Psy101, Eng 101, Bio 201 Bio 202 and CNA ( Nurse's Aide ) I had to take MAT092 too. ( were the pre-reqs )

Specializes in acute care.

I took 2 1/2 semesters to finish 10 pre reqs, summer 07, fall 07 and spring 08.

Specializes in LTC.

I went part time at first (no financial aide, I was considered my parents dependent...while my parents make it, they couldn't make it enough to fork out 1,000 plus every 3 months), so I went 3 years part time...I have a year of pre-reqs left. This time I'm going full time (I have a daughter and am not married so I'm considered a single mom on a CNA income). Looking at it I have 8 classes left to take and it would take me 3 years...amazing...So had I gone full time it would have only taken me 2 years....Looking back I really should have pulled out student loans...but I didn't want to have debt (yet was fine with have 5 credit cards)...Now even with full financial aid I'll need to pull out loans when I get into the program...I'm the breadwinner of the family and will only be able to work weekends. Funny how things are always different when you've grown a little.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

It took me from Spring semester '06 to Spring semester '08.

But...I completed all of my prereqs and coreqs during that time:

Intro Psych

Devel Psych

Gen Chem

Orgo/Biochem

Gen Bio

Anatomy

Physio

Micro

plus a bunch of BSN gened stuff...(statistics, sociology, etc etc...)

Depends on what you mean by "full time". 12 units is the minimum you can take and be considered full time. However, many people take 1-3 classes beyond that, and obviously that's going to impact your completion time.

Do your prerequisite classes have prerequisites of their own? Often the bio classes require introductory biology or chemistry. before you start them. Do you feel you'd be able to handle two hard science classes at once and get optimal grades (if you're looking at a competitive nursing program)?

2 semesters is probably reasonable if those are truly the only 4 classes you have to worry about, but you'll likely get better grades spreading the bio classes out over 3 semesters, and also working on co-requisites or other degree requirements so you don't have to worry about them on top of the nursing program.

Specializes in Rehabilitation.

I did my pre-reqs in one year:

BIO201 - A&P1

BIO202 - A&P2

ENG101 - English

PSY101 - Intro Psych

PSY251 - Human Growth / Development

Now I just take:

3 NURSING 100-level classes

BIO120 Nutrition

Then I get my certificate in nursing! (LPN)

Specializes in Rehabilitation.

After LPN, I gotta do these classes:

English 151

Intro to Sociology

Fundamentals of Oral Commuication

Microbiology

Advanced Nursing I

Advanced Nursing II

Then I get the degree, and (hopefully) RN!

It took me 3 years.

-Graduate High school in 2003

-Took a year off to work

-Fall 2004 - Spring 2007 worked on pre-reqs. (I ended up withdrawing from 2 semesters due to heavy course load &car accident)

-Spring 2007 I found out I didn't get accepted into the nursing program of my first choice and I didn't have a backup plan of a 2nd or 3rd or 4th choice of nursing schools

-The program that I got accepted into (got acceptance letter earlier this year) I could have started without having to finish all those prereqs b/c the sequence is that nursing students take gen eds AND nursing classes at the same time, GRRRRR.

Specializes in None.

Four regular school years and two summers!
