How do I wear this?

I graduate tonight. We didn't wear caps during school but we do have to wear them to graduation. The order was late getting in so we couldn't pick them up until this morning. How do I wear this thing? Does it sit back on my head? Towards the fromt? I have no clue and I'm short on time. Help! Also, how the heck do I keep it on? I have images of it sliding off my head as I'm walking across the stage in my head.

The cap looks almost exactly like this:

White bobby pins (hair pins).

Take a small cotton ball and bobby pin it to the crown of your head. Then inside the cap there should be a small piece of material you can attach another bobby pin to(found at the very front of the cap). With great care, pin the cap to the cotton ball. Then secure the sides down with yet more bobby pins.

NOW you know why we were happy to get rid of the things. It will give you great posture though as you try not to move your head too quickly and walk perfectly upright.

BTW, do the men have to wear caps too? My husband is bald, I guess he couldn't go to graduation if he needed a cap. BWHAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm gonna try that. Thank you so much.

The three men in our class are getting away with just wearing the white graduation gown.

When we were "capped" the 2 men in our class were given caps when their turn came to go up to the nun who was doing the ceremony. It was the only time in my life a nun ever told up to "rat" our hair, so she would have a place to bobby pin the cap. Teasing your hair does help!

My class chose not to go with caps. The head of our program was against them, since she doesn't like the subservient symbolism associated with them. We could be capped if we wanted to but nobody in the class did. I told the other guy in class that I would get capped if he would, but he wouldn't.

They still make those things?

Be sure and not wear any underwear under your gown as a symbol of freedom from school. It's a tradition. :coollook:

let us know how graduation went

I can't believe that schools still require those sexist symbols.

:balloons: I just graduated on May 14th from my BScN programme. My programme is a collaboration between an university and a college. The college tradition has always been to have wear the cap and have a pinning ceromony at a church... Needless to see the university doesn't do things in this fashion. So as the first class graduating from the programme we sort of had our choice to do what we wanted. :) We choose no caps, and the pinning was done at our after grad event with all of our friends and family to watch ie no white dress and no church. Tradition is wonderful, but at a certain point you have to begin a new one. I agree that the caps represent a subservient and sexist symbol from our past that I'm glad to have not been part of.

Congrats, enjoy the evening it is more exhausting than you can imagine.

They totally threw out the whole pinning/cap ceremony at my university. We wore regular graduation gowns like the rest of the students and after we walked across the stage, one of our instructors was standing there to pin us.
