How would you handle this?

Nurses General Nursing

A 38 year-old elective surgery patient scheduled as 1st case the following morning (6:00) was admitted the night before. He was to undergo Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. He came in with his girlfriend. Admitting SOP's were done and the couple was nice and friendly.

Still walking on the aisle heading to the nurse's station, I thought I had to return to the patient's room because I felt I need to explain the rationale and stress on the NPO post dinner instruction I gave earlier. I knocked 3x, identified self as the nurse in-charge and opened the unlocked door. To my surprise of finding my patient half naked and having rough sex with the girlfriend on the floor just in front of me! I felt really embarrassed that I just quickly pulled the door close and rushed to the nurse's station with face red and hot! :imbar I even forgot to apologize! :smackingf

I managed to return after an hour, I think, to complete the task and to apologize. Boy, that was difficult :D.

If you have experienced similar thing while at work, how did you handle the situation?

By the way, if I do sound overly-reacting, perhaps because I am from Asia with more conservative culture on sex and sexuality, and this was my first time :D.

:imbar Thanks

And apparently, some women.

The OP didn't say he was having sex by himself....

Actually, they should have apologized to you for exposing themselves in public.

I personally think it's funny and I think you learn as you go, how you're gonna handle it.

I have a feeling they sort of wanted to be caught (it's a turn on for some--heightened awareness something like sneaking a kiss in high school). So my guess is they liked feeling they were being "bad". Not my thing but I do recall when I was young being admitted and my gf was bothering me quite a bit but I was paranoid and stopped her.

I can imagine the uneasiness walking in. That's when you gotta make sure you've got your head on and laugh about it sooner, go in and say "No more romantic interludes or I'm calling your parents" or something off handed. I'd also tell them the floor was super dirty and give them some micro 101 (people think hospitals are clean). It's gonna happen and on wards where this is common, as part of the "welcome to our hospital" I address all their system needs including my sex expectations asking if they can hold off cause it was a dirty environment and it may offend someone like house keeping. Most give me an odd look but saying that reduces it.

Thank god I've never had to deal with this. I don't know what I'd do!

One of my coworkers walked in on a female patient and her girlfriend doing the nasty...the patient had a broken leg too...crazy stuff. My coworker was very upset. I was charge and I had to go tell them it wasn't the place for that stuff to be going on (it was very hard to keep a straight face).

I might watch...but then I would have to go to church and confess...I think.

And yes, women are stupid about sex too sometimes...but I bet it was the guys idea!! LOL
