So you make a thread about it to strangers on the internet to discuss? Why not discuss with the individuals whose practice you are concerned about so they can improve? I personally feel that would be more productive and useful

I have more than one coworker that I'm amazed that they got through school. I really like them, but marvel at their cluelessness. These are not new nurses, to say the least.

I've also made this observation at times over the years and it is actually one of the things I would tell myself as a pep talk to get myself through a couple of rough patches in nursing school; if they can do it, I can do it!

I think everyone has encountered one of those people in their career. I know I have- and like vanilla bean, she motivated me to get where I am.

I dunno. I would personally prefer someone to address me in person if they had concerns about my practice, rather than talk about me to others, and I try and do the same to others. I guess that makes me a critic?

I doubt it. People always say that. Then, when you approach them, they get defensive and PO'd.

I actually don't get offended with constructive feedback, and have generally had good reception when speaking to coworkers about concerns/ things I've noticed,. Some people do get defensive and po'd, but that is more of a reflection of their personality and maturity in my opinion

I tried that once and got, "Why is everyone always blaming everything on me?" Oh how I wish I could give more details!

I'm fine with receiving constructive criticism ...even straight criticism. Not everyone is, though.

Everyone's different. If I see that the person can handle constructive criticism, I say something. if they're the weak type and cry harassment at everything, I let them be and pray someone I know never is under their care. Fact is, we all don't know everything and there is always a learning opportunity for any of us at any point. Whether we choose to take that opportunity is individualized.

I found that some simply have not kept up with current practices.

For me personally,I find that when someone criticizes me,I research to find the current,evidenced based practice.

Oftentimes,there is conflicting evidence.

Really? You think clueless coworkers want to hear it from me or you? If they've slipped through instructors, preceptors and managers and aren't self-directed enough to improve, what would be the point of wasting my breath?

This is a true venting thread. No victim behaviour on the part of the OP; no clueless self-absorption. Just an expression of chagrin over a situation that is mystifying and one has little power to change. And I can completely relate. I've wondered the same thing myself.
