How do you apply for a license in MD? I am from Illinois and plan on taking NCLEX in MD in June (Graduate in May 06 in IL). I was on the MD BON homepage but it really doesn't seem like it has too much. if anyone knows all help is appreciated.. Thanks

you can request an appl. from MBON they will send it to you in IL. its a fee of $75.00 and you can also fill out your paperwork for the nclex and put MD for the state that you wish to get license. Do you know what part of Md you will be moving too? That will help in where you want to go do your testing

I'm in the same situation. I have a job starting at the end of March '07 (pending licensure) in Maryland and I'm graduating from nursing school in NY on Jan. 30. My advisor seems to think it will be difficult to verify my education to the MDBON since it was out of state. I checked the MDBON website but it is very vague. I also emailed the BON person in charge of licensure-by-exam with no response and everytime I call I get her voicemailbox which is full. I've already requested an application from their website twice and gotten nothing. Anyone else been through the same thing?

Not a problem at all, just submit a completed set of transcripts as soon as they are available. Not an issue for them to check over the courses on your trancripts, that is why they are submitted in the first place.
Suggest that you proceed directly with licensure in the state where you wish to work, will save you time from endorsing, as you will still have to go thru the same procedures............

When I got my Md RN license in 2001, I had to send information to the original state I got my RN license in & pay $$ to get that info to MBON. Then I got to pay for a Md RN license. I hear that next year, 2007, we will all have to fingerprinted too & have a criminal check background & that no one with a criminal background can get a nursing license. I have a CA RN license & had to get fingerprinted for that one in 2003.

Whenever I have submitted forms for another license, the state always requested the education info to be sent directly from the school. I think there is a special stamp or something they use to stamp the copy sent to the board. Never has been a problem, costs me 5.00, and always seemed to be sent out in a timely fashion.
Fingerprint cards are sent to FBI, most local police departments will do them for free. I have never had a problem with licensure in another state, just give your self plenty of time for information to be processed.
Thanks for your help. Time is the big issue for me. I know if I were just getting a NY state license it would be a piece of cake but applying out of state is complicating things. I have about 6 weeks from graduation date to get my license so I hope the paperwork doesn't take too long.

whatever you do, try to avoid the bon in towson. get licensed by mail, by internet, whatever. just do anything you can to avoid that waiting room!
Hey Ruby,
Please explain the comment regarding the waiting room. My mind has some pretty funny visuals going on. LOL!

hubby and i came to maryland as travelers. we had applied for licenses prior to coming, but they hadn't arrived by the time we needed to leave the state we were in. so when we got to maryland, we had to go to towson to check into our licenses.
the waiting room was full of people -- all the chairs were full, people were sitting on the floor, sitting outside on the sidewalk (this was in january) and waiting in the local fast food restaurant in groups. they'd send a representative in periodically to check on the line. we waited in that office all freaking day! the ladies that worked there were vile -- one of them chastised me in front of all of those people in the waiting room for daring to apply for a maryland license before we arrived in maryland. and then they gave dh an lpn license by mistake, so he had to go back the next day! (and then work that night.) they tried to charge him for both the lpn license and the rn license. he was trying to explain that it was their error, and they were just nasty to him.
awful experience!
Wow! That doesn't sound very good. Maybe I haven't received my application because of this weird out-of-state attitude ? At this point I'm thinking I may have to go to one of their offices (not the Towson one!) just to get an application.
