That's why it's important to be at the bedside on a regular basis. It's good to take a break from wiping behinds at times, but I"m glad I'm still doing bedside nursing. At least today I am! hahahaha

I am using all this fabulous information as a study guide. With 5 years experience in the ER, & been out of the work force for 8 months, I am considering returning to LaLa Land to get back into the fray. (I've been living in Saudi Arabia where I could not be hired as a nurse because I was not recruited from my home country & am a 'casual employee'). Keep up the good work, laughs & support! Remember that your housing will be covered, so the pay, which will also likely be tax free may be equivalent to what you're getting now. I would encourage you to apply to Aramco in Dhahran. I am an American ER nurse, but since I"m here with my husband as a casual employment, I cannot work here as a nurse. You have to hired from your country of origin. Aramco is a huge compound with gyms, parks, commissaries & life is better here than working for another hospital with few recreational resources. I hope to be hired by Saad Hospital in Al Khobar with as the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, as I've had training in that area. You will have to wear the abaya when off camp but it's no big deal & always go out with your friends. Dhahran is also a short drive away from Bahrain, which is the local party center in this part of the world, so you'll be able to get out & have fun. Good luck!

Love that post!!! But aren't we preaching to the choir here? This needs to be disseminated to the public. When I've told patients of others who've called 911 for a hang nail, when I have another patient having an AMI drive themselves to the hospital, they can't believe the ignorance of some people.

I wonder what the outcome was after he & his mother were treated. Was his sorry a** hauled off to the hoosegow or what? I'd tube him just to make sure his airway stayed clear. Without sedation.

When I took the CEN, & failed by a few questions, there were so many questions on the eye! Couldn't believe it. I may try again, but when I came out of the testing, I felt like a truck hit me. Maybe it was my own stress level, but it was pretty hard, plus I don't work for an eye center, but a mid-level ED in a suburban area.

Al-Anon is supposed to be very helpful for people with family members who have ETOH & drug problems. I'd recommend going to a meeting, as it has helped many others.:balloons:

I read this article & saw the man who decided to crash his truck into the hospital was waiting to be treated for CHRONIC back pain. As has been stated many times before, the ED/ER is NOT the place for chronic problems. That's what your primary physician is for. He should have been arrested for assault & endangering the life of his mother.

And always wear deodorant & brush your teeth too. I keep a roll-on in my locker, pert shampoo & toothbrush & paste, plus an extra set of scrubs. But I don't carry the "Bag", as I have supplies @ work & can steal a pen if I forget mine.

I didn't go through the whole thread, but Born Free goes through my head when an OB pt comes. "Born Free, your father's a doctor, your mother's a midwife, so you're BORN FREE".

Sounds like that girl learned what to say from her mother. We are the ones who pay for their treatment. They pay nothing towards our salary.
