How was your first week/day at school?

Well, 2 days down and countless to go! I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 2 days of class. We're just doing dosage calc's right now, but I still feel like it's my first step forward. :) I am trying to memorize the apothecary system right now. Even though the book says "they" are phasing it out, the teacher seems to be a fan of it. So, if anyone has any cute way to remember how much a dram, minim, or grain is, fill me in! How's everyone else's first week going? I hope you all are doing great! And for those who haven't started yet...GOOD LUCK!!!:)

I'm glad that your first couple of days have gone well! My first class is tonight from 6-9. I cant wait! I went to office max yesterday and stocked up on school supplies!

I am just starting my second semester. We started on Tue and had our dos. calc test on Friday (100%). We sure are moving quickly. It is so exciting. Our first clinical in the hospital is tomorrow. I'm not really nervous but definatly excited!!!! Good Luck everyone.:p :p

in a nutshell...............interesting and overwhelming.

Nearly slipped into a coma today in my End of Life/Palliative Care class. Of course it didn't help that we had the lights down low so we could see the powerpoints, then the lights went OFF so we could watch a video...and let me tell you, theatre style seating is WAY too comfortable for 8 a.m. zzzZZzzZZ

Other than that, good...and lots do to already! Oy.

I start a week from today. I have just been going over my med math book and trying to get a handle on dosage calculations.

WOW! 2 days in and I have been given enough paper to start my own forest :rotfl: It is overwhelming and hectic and exciting all at the same time. I just had my first pharmacology class today, yesterday was fundamentals. The worst thing thus far is the suprises, books that weren't on the book list and a 125.00 bag of stuff like gloves, gowns, etc. I wish they would have given us the list of what was in the bag, I know I could have gotten it cheaper on my bargain shopping excursions. *sigh*

The 2 hour wait in the bookstore line, well that's another story :angryfire

I told my hubby last night that I feel like I have finally found the place where I belong. I know this was the right choice for me to do. Woot!

We had our first lab and learned taking temperatures with various instruments, checking pulse and respirations, and washing our hands. I have lectures from 8 - 1 on Monday morning, in the same room, very long!

I don't start school till next tues but I have to go to the lab tomarrow and thur to practice for clinical lab skills. Before we graduate we are required by the BNE to be tested in our clinical skills. So, next week on our first day we are going to be tested in IM, SQ, IVP, IVPB, start iv(with math calc), trach care, suctioning, ng tube instertion/placement, central line dressing change, foley catheter, etc. We are required to pass all to gradute. If you don't pass one of them then you need to have satisfactory by the end of semester. I hope to get everything the first time. I'm just going to have to practice, practice, practice!!

:)

Sounds like you guys are enjoying it! I start tues. but have CPR training tomorrow, and orientation friday and im so ready to get started its driving me crazy, but i cant believe its actually here, i just want to get going!! I had to go get all my stuff together yesterday, and it was crazy, i still dont have 2 of my books because the bookstore doesnt have them, so its kind of stressing me out! And the scrubs threw me for a loop! I thought for sure I was a medium (we cant try them on because they are in the bookstore) so i held it up and it looked like it would fit, but i got it home and it looked like someone had dropped a table cloth over me it was so big. So thankfully i returned it for a small (which fits great) and because i was returning they just put me at the first register so i didnt have to stand in line! yay!

I think I fit in here, my school is a bit different. We have to take 3 nursing classes and be able to pass them (76% passing/C like most colleges) this semester before we are admitted into the program for the fall,---I think they are weeding out those who can make it or realize nursing is not what they want to do before starting the program and taking a seat from someone else who really wants it. I am taking Fundamentals of Nursing and lab, Intro to Nursing (writing care plans, case studies, etc), and Growth and Devel Across the Lifespan 1. Also Dosage Calculations, can't forget that.

I am enjoying Intro to Nursing and Fundamentals the best so far. In Fundamentals this week we did hand washing, sterile glove technique, "drop" gloves, sterile field, sterile masks and gown and how to get them all off correctly, and transmission of microbes. Lots of sterile stuff! Lots of little deatils to remember!

Intro we are learning how to research the nursing journals to find the info we need and APA format.

I am still trying to organize my huge syllabses (sp??)! LOL It gives me a great idea (minus clincals which I wont have till the fall) on what nursing school will be like in the fall.

I see what you all meant before when talking about critical thinking...it's already started, I hear that a LOT.

This is my second semester and they are moving much faster than first semester. We had our first campus lab yesterday, pharmacology and nursing lecture today. We had checkoffs for sterile dressing changes today. Our first assignment is due on friday, at least we get to study a week before the first exam. :chuckle
