How was your first week/day at school?

Well, 2 days down and countless to go! I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 2 days of class. We're just doing dosage calc's right now, but I still feel like it's my first step forward. :) I am trying to memorize the apothecary system right now. Even though the book says "they" are phasing it out, the teacher seems to be a fan of it. So, if anyone has any cute way to remember how much a dram, minim, or grain is, fill me in! How's everyone else's first week going? I hope you all are doing great! And for those who haven't started yet...GOOD LUCK!!!:)

I just finished my 3rd class in my first semester of nursing school. On day one we went over basic stuff like the history of nursing, program information, nurses roles, etc. Day two we went over vital signs, pain issues. Today we did hygiene issues (bathing, etc). We have Thursdays off, but Friday is our first test!

They gave us a pop quiz today but it wasn't bad at all. It mostly covered vital sign info, some conversions and questions about pain management. If the first test is anything like the pop quiz...I've got it made in the shade

We have about 60 people in our class (11 guys). Everyone seems nervous but totally dedicated. It's funny because nearly everyone shows up to class 45 minutes early, lol.

Our instructors seem totally nice and very organized. They have been great so far. Looking over the schedule, it looks like we will be having a test after every three units or so. It's fast and furious, but I love it so far!

Hope ya'll are doing good and are settling in!

I had my third class of my first semester today. The first day was only 2 hours, but today and yesterday were 7.5 hrs! :uhoh3: These long days are supposed to be our clinical days, but we don't actually go to the clinical site for another 6 weeks. I feel so disorganized. The material is easy enough, there's just so much of it. Tomorrow is our first theory lecture (3 hrs).

I've made a reservation at the skills lab for Friday morning (my day off) to practice bed baths/oral hygeine and bed-making by myself. It's a little intimidating to have a whole bunch of people waiting for you to get out of their way during regular class practice. At least we get to do our bed baths on a dummy. PHEW!

This is the first opportunity I've even had to log on since school started on Monday! Yeah, it's busy.

Goodluck to you in your first semester of ns school. Not trying to scare you guys but first semester was one of the most difficult semesters. I think it's because I was trying to adjust to a new school, moved away from home etc...In nursing school you can no longer just memorize the material your studying. Test questions are not knowledge based but requires critical thinking. Make sure you study hard!! I really didn't care for first semester. It was too basic and didn't feel like I learned much other than baths, ambulation, intake & output. Second semester I had med-surg and got to do so much more in clinical. By the end of med-surg you start feeling like a real nurse. I would advise you all to meet people who you can network with. I don't know what I would of done without the support of my friends. They are the only ones who know what you are going through. We have 8 ppl in our group so we help eachother out by splitting the chapter summaries. Good luck to you again and congratulations for getting into nursing school.

Your lucky we had to get very intimate with our group partner's and give eachother a bath. (with underwear and bra) LOL

Aside from one of my professors being nice looking, and with certain high-school-minded girls in the back CONSTANTLY tee-heeing non-stop over that (and that noise winding up on my digital recorder), it's not been that bad.

Peanut! Holy b-crap!!!! That's a lot of stuff to be tested on your first day/week!!! My goodness. I don't envy you at all. :o Well, I start tomorrow and I'm kinda freaking out a little bit. I was suppossed to do units 1-4 of my calculations book, but the thing is, I'm afraid that I bought the wrong calc book. If I tear the wrapping, I can't return it for full price. That was an expensive book. I feel a little unprepared, but I'll be OK. Good luck to all of you. God bless.

I just read my syllabus, and I have 4 more chapters to read for day 1, plus my 88 page and 45 page chapters that I already read, all for Fundamentals.:uhoh21: I signed up late and didn't get all of my info right away. My eyes hurt.

Outside of two extremely rude and disrespectful "instructors," I enjoy nursing school so far (only into the 2nd week). I have been lucky enough to not be one of those verbally insulted or attacked by these two women - but witnessing their behavior and attitude toward the few students who have fell victim to this makes me just as uncomfortable. I just cannot understand how these grown women (the instructors) feel it is okay to talk to other grown women (students) with such attitude and disrespect. It is absolutely unnecessary, uncalled for and wrong. It is us students who are paying a very, very healthy penny to attend school and I think, at a minimum, expecting to be spoken to and addressed as an adult is not asking too much. Maybe this sort of treatment is part of the "weeding out" process I have heard so much of - but I think it stinks.

Sorry, I just had to vent. Off to clinical tomorrow! :wink2:

I have had a great first week of nursing school. This is my first semester. We had a return demonstration to the faculty of handwashing and then we practiced setting up a sterile field. Well, I really messed up getting the 4x4s onto the sterile drape and one of the little 20year olds laughed. It made me feel really self-conscious and nervous. But I'm trying to get over that, after all, I have four children (d15, s13, s8, and s15mo) and stuff happens. Nursing arts lab is open tomorrow so I will go practice. Good luck to all of you!!!!!

And in my other class tonight, we have "a model". So far she begins her sentences with "as a model" or "on a modeling job" or "i'm a model". Yeah we get it, you're not ugly, let's move on.

I don't think i can deal with a whole semester of all-about-me sentences.

I dont like my classes because the students there are so competitive. I went back today, and I said to myself, "Back in the war again!"
