Or, if you're still looking, how long have you been looking since graduation?
I'm only asking because I'm graduating next week, and after celebrations and the such, I'm going to be on the prowl for my first RN position. I've supported myself through financial aid (thank you taxpayers!) and I have enough finances to cover me for at least another month. I'm really going to need to start working very soon! So I'm just wondering how long it took for you RNs out there to land your first position? Thanks!!
EDIT: I just viewed the thread that is related to my question...I would delete but not sure how to. Any responses are still appreciated, however!
Applied at places from Late January to May (to about 60 places in and around Houston, Texas).... no call backs, NOTHING (and I called back HR plenty of times at these places to follow up), until the week of graduation. Graduated Saturday May 14th, got a interview the following Wednesday (and Hired that day!) People were like "WOW, you got a job so fast!" But they don't realize that i've looked for 5 months...only to get ONE interview. It sucked!
Well, I graduated and found a job last year, but this was my timeline, basically:
I think I started applying around March.
I literally applied to about 40 places all across Ontario, to both hospitals and LTC.
Finished final exams in late April.
I had a grand total of 2 interviews and was offered a job after my second interview. That was in mid-May. The job was in a different city, about a 4 hour drive from my hometown.
Started my job officially in early July (June was my CRNE - the Canadian version of the NCLEX - as well as graduation (the ceremony and degree-getting), attending a three-day orientation, finding a place to live, and packing/moving!)
I graduated May 2010, passed Nclex July 2010.
I began applying in July and got my first and only interview in December 2010, and began working in January, 2011(almost 60 miles away from home)...I'm on the job hunt again, looking for somewhere more supportive & hopefully closer to home, but the job market is horrible here in the inland empire (CA).
