How fast did you find your first job?

Published

Specializes in DOU, Medical-Surgical.

Or, if you're still looking, how long have you been looking since graduation?

I'm only asking because I'm graduating next week, and after celebrations and the such, I'm going to be on the prowl for my first RN position. I've supported myself through financial aid (thank you taxpayers!) and I have enough finances to cover me for at least another month. I'm really going to need to start working very soon! So I'm just wondering how long it took for you RNs out there to land your first position? Thanks!! :nurse:

EDIT: I just viewed the thread that is related to my question...I would delete but not sure how to. Any responses are still appreciated, however!

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

I started looking about two months before I graduated nursing school. I was hired one month later, just over one month before graduation.

5 months for me. I consider that pretty good considering the economy. I'm just thankful I have a job.

Graduated/licensed in September, interviewed and offered position in mid-December, started mid January. I started looking while in school, but didn't get any interviews til after I was licensed.

Interview and offer six weeks after NCLEX; start date was three weeks later. Believe me, I know how lucky I was.

Graduated this month (May) had an offer for a nurse extern graduate position since March started last week. Take nclex June 3rd and as soon as I receive my license # if I pass I'll be immediately promoted to clinical nurse (RN)

Applications submitted in February.

Interviews in March.

Job offer mid-April.

Graduation end of April.

Start as a GN end of May, will promote to RN as soon as I get my license.

Specializes in Hospice.

graduated a year ago, offer 1 month after graduation started just under two months after graduation.

Specializes in Oncology, Med-Surg, Nursery.

I graduated in May 2008 and had a job before graduation. I started looking around January or February 2008 and was hired in April. Seems like the classes following my graduation class had a much harder time finding a job due to the mess with the economy.
