How fast did you find your first job?

Published

Or, if you're still looking, how long have you been looking since graduation?

I'm only asking because I'm graduating next week, and after celebrations and the such, I'm going to be on the prowl for my first RN position. I've supported myself through financial aid (thank you taxpayers!) and I have enough finances to cover me for at least another month. I'm really going to need to start working very soon! So I'm just wondering how long it took for you RNs out there to land your first position? Thanks!! :nurse:

EDIT: I just viewed the thread that is related to my question...I would delete but not sure how to. Any responses are still appreciated, however!

Specializes in Emergency Dept. Trauma. Pediatrics.

I got a pre screening phone interview (May 20th) the same week I took NCLEX (May 16th) and an in-person interview unrelated a week after (May 24th) I took NCLEX, I am waiting for the decision for that interview (should know by next week) and if I don't get offered that position I have an interview with a nursing panel when I get back from vacation. I return June 9th so my interview would be the week following. The HR lady I talked to today tried to imply I had a really good chance from my in person interview. So I don't know what to think. I am praying I find out soon and I did get it. I have no medical experience and haven't worked more then 7 months in the last 11 years. All of my fellow classmates will be taking boards next week and the week after so I know it's about to get a lot tougher, that is why I have gotten my hopes way up on this job I interviewed for. I am the only one that took boards in my class so far. We graduated on May 10th.

A week after graduation.

17 months....STILL LOOKING.....NYC is DEAD

I know what you mean. I had to move from NYC to upstate New York to find my first Med/Sug job. I graduated in Jan. 2009 and I passed my board in March '09. It took me 9 months to find my first job which was a temporary full-time position that lasted 4 months. Then another 6 months to find my second job (also temporary). Then after I decided I would be willing to move upstate, it took me about 3 months to find my first hospital job. :yeah:
