  1. Yes noviceRN i totally agree with you. I actually did most of the care for 1 patient my 2nd week, but thats because I was paired up with a per diem nurse that was one of the most helpful ones I had, and she actually requested me to work with her, but because she's per diem, I didnt have an opportunity to work with her again
  2. Thank U sweetheartRN and Blue2011 for ur replies. I've been applying to other hospitals and I've even contacted past recruiters that I previously met. I am considering transferring to Tele, but since we are an LTACH the patient ratio is 1:9, and im honestly afraid to jump into that, because alot of those are the same vent patients that we transfer once they're of drips, but still require constant monitoring. Plus our regular floor has a very bad nurse turnover rate, with constant complaints of team nursing not being effective. What really upsets me is that I really Love what I do, and I know that If i would have gotten into a more supportive environment, I would be a much stronger nurse by now. I took ACLS, critical care, dysrhythmia, and lots of self study courses all on my own time & money just to be successful.
  3. I graduated May 2010, passed Nclex July 2010. I began applying in July and got my first and only interview in December 2010, and began working in January, 2011(almost 60 miles away from home)...I'm on the job hunt again, looking for somewhere more supportive & hopefully closer to home, but the job market is horrible here in the inland empire (CA).
  4. I would have definitely done BSN, or at least I would have tried to get into the hospital to work as a CNA. I opted to continue to work as a Medical Assistant, but that did not help me at all. But I guess it really depends where you live, but here in California, ADN's are having a really tough time.
  5. 30 internal applicants!!!! Well that just shattered my hopes.
  6. Well this is my first post, so here is my situation: I am an ADN graduate from last year(05/10), and I'll start taking BSN classes in January of next year. I was finally lucky enough to get a job this past january (55 miles away from home), which I am very thankful for, but it just hasn't turned out to be what I expected. I was hired as the first and only new grad in an ICU dept in a long term Acute care hospital, but I only received 6 weeks of "orientation" which consisted of being paired up with 12 different nurses, with most of them completely unwilling to provide me with any support because they don't agree with new grads starting off in ICU. My first week every nurse refused to take me as a preceptee, so the manager had to intervene, and I think everyone resents me for going to him & letting him know the way I was being treated, but I had no other choice. I've been given very hard patient assignments, but ive managed to be able to take care of these really sick patients on vents with multiple vasopressors, insulin drips, and numerous other meds, but I still feel that no one is willing to accept me. The only nurse that helped me is leaving, because she says that she cant handle the people we work with because there is absolutely no team work. I've talked to my manager, but he keeps telling me that I shouldn't worry because im doing a good job, and that I should just "hang in there", but im afraid that im pretty much having to learn everything on my own. Im considering putting in my 2 week notice, but im afraid of not finding a job elsewhere because of the current job market and because im no longer considered a new grad. I really LOVE what I do, but the stress is taking a toll on me, I cant do this on my own, its not safe for me or my patients(even thought I triple check every thing I do)...Should I continue to "hang in there????
  7. I just finished taking a basic critical care course through Key Resources Medical. The website is www.cprclassroom.com. I think there is an upcoming class in either February or March. I also know that www.flexed.com has various different classes offered throughout different hospital in southern california. Hopefully, you can find something helpful through either of these companies.
  8. When I was in nursing school (graduated May,2010) I subscribed to Nursing 2009, & 2010, as well as Nursing Made Incredibly Easy. Both of those magazines had great articles that I used plenty of times for review before many tests. They both were very helpful throughout the nursing program. Many times I made copies for my study group and my other classmates, so that we could do a quick overview on different subjects.
  9. @VanessaRN & Sasagrrrl & everyone else....thank U for all of the encouragement. I guess this rejection just really hit me hard, because I really wanted to work for USC. I actually drive 40 miles just to volunteer there, because it was my #1 choice. :crying2: But now I have to accept reality and keep on trying everywhere else, again. I'm getting so depressed with this whole situation!!!!! Everyone just says hang in there it will get better....WHEN????
  10. Well it looks like the wait is over for some of us. I just got a very polite rejection e-mail. Unfortunately I wasnt chosen:crying2:. Good Luck to those of you that make it to the next step:yeah:.
  11. I'm in the same boat as you tomyjoon, I live in southern california. To make matters worse, california isnt a compact state, so i would have to pay for endorsement in another state if i want to relocate. Unfortunately, if i dont find a job here in cali, i might just have to come up with the funds to be able to qualify to RN jobs in other states.
  12. Thanks cm20, I had been checking & all it said was profile created. I just checked & I was right..."Not Selected." Oh well, I guess this just means it wasnt meant for me Good Luck to all of us new grads on our job hunt!!!!!!
  13. I applied to Glendale Memorials New Grad program, but I havent gotten any response. I called Human Resources about three weeks ago, but HR said that they had were still reviewing applications. The program is scheduled to start the first week of October, so I am assuming I wasnt chosen, but I was wondering whether anyone got called for an interview???
  14. If you really want to be a nurse, then you should just go for it. I graduated in May, 2010 with an ADN & still have not found a job. The job market is still quite bad for new grads. In the meantime maybe spending the time to get your BSN would give you a chance to pursue nursing, while the economy gets better. Another advice would be to work as a CNA or as a student extern, because that will give you a better chance of getting hired once you're done with school. The problem is not that there isnt a need for nurses, the problem is that the hospitals arent able to spend the money on training us new grads in this economy. Hopefully things get better SOON!!!!
  15. I took my NCLEX-RN a couple months ago, and I did the pearsonvue trick when I got home, and I got the GOOD popup. Two days later my RN license was posted on the CA BON. :yeah:So definitely try this, it is a stress reliever!!!
