How far out from applying are you?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

After this semester I have intermediate algebra and my 4 science classes left (A&P, Chem and microbiology - all with lab) If all goes as planned, I'll be applying next fall, while taking physiology and micro. I'm still undecided if I'll space them out and just wait a little longer to apply though ( Im worried taking two science classes will be too much for me, plus Id like to get the points for completing them)

It seems so far away! Anyone else else a year out from applying? Just curious :)

Im attending OSU-OKC.. anyone else going there??

Hi! Great question, I've been wanting to connect with people in the same boat.

I'm finishing up a psychology degree and will graduate Summer of 2017.

I have to take about 6/7 pre req classes, and then will be applying to start in Spring 2018! I am so excited!!! Whoop whoop!!! The school I am going to will accept most of my credits, and doesn't require pre req, but it is very expensive so i am trying to take every class available besides the nursing classes of course. Chamberlain School of Nursing Atlanta, GA campus.

The psych degree was pursued before I was 100 percent about nursing, so I MUST finish that, plus it is almost complete.

I'm taking my last pre reqs this semester. Spoke to nursing dept yesterday and I'm set to start nursing classes in the spring :D

I have just decided to go for it! It's hard now that I've made the decision because I just want to quit my jobs and focus full time in school. Unfortunately, I have a 15 month old at home and a mortgage to pay! So, I plan to start my prerequisites this January and apply next January for start Summer 2017. That's hard to think about how far out it is, something tells me it'll fly by! Slow and steady's right for me. Good luck!

If I can pass AP1 and Intro Chem this fall. Then take the TEAS in the winter I can apply in January. I find out in May if I am accepted and my acceptance depends on if I pass AP2 or acceptance can be revoked.

If not accepted into the ASN program I'll have to wait till January 18 to apply. Have to take Micro, Lifespan, and AP2 is left for the ASN program.

For the BSN program I have Chem 1, Chem 2, Genetics, Pre Calc, Statistics, Lifespan, Micro, AP2, and Physics left (YUCK).

Specializes in Postpartum.

I have about 3-4 semesters after this one

I'm applying in March in hopes of starting nursing school in August if all goes as planned.

I'll be taking AP 2, Micro and phys Ed in the spring. I want to get those last prerequisites done and out of the way before I start.

I am applying this February and hoping to start in the Fall semester which is August . . .. I'm sort of worried, (previous post will explain why) buuuut things have changed so I have decided to bite the bullet & just apply! I am currently finishing up my pre-reqs. I only have stats left but that's not a requirement until way later so I'll probably take it this upcoming semester.

Currently taking Medical Terminology as a filler & it helps me brush up on my A&P. Its not a requirement to read the anatomy sections but they're right there & are very helpful in remembering the terms. Definitely would suggest it as a filler

Specializes in Oncology, OCN.

Halfway through my last pre-req (micro) for my first choice school right now, taking HESI in December and applying for Fall 2017 in January. For my back up school I need to take and pass a CLEP exam for Chemistry, need to figure out their deadline for that soon, if I remember correctly their application deadline is in February with a second review application in March/April for Fall 2017 start. I started my first pre-req back in February of this year. Applying to ABSN programs, have a previous biology degree so only needed to take 5 pre-req classes plus CLEP or take a chemistry class for the back up school (my chemistry credits from my degree are expired).

Specializes in Family Clinic.

I just found out that if I push really hard, I can apply in Spring for FALL entry into the BSN program! I was expecting to have to wait until the following year. This means I have to take my HESI in early spring and finish 10 classes that are mostly sciences as well as english and math classes over the next two semesters! It works out really well for my family but I will be swamped and also trying to gain experience as a newly licensed CNA. I already feel stressed lol.

Specializes in Emergency.

Slow and steady is the way to do it! Schools are so competitive that quality counts. Take your time. I started last winter with algebra, then chem 121 in spring, and 131 (organic) in summer. Right now I'm taking A&P1 and English 101. Next term is A&P2 and Micro. I will apply next term and hope to start fall 2017. As long as this term goes well I'm a strong candidate to get in for next year!

I'm in microbiology right now and my math pre-req. I have AP I and II left, and for the school I'm going to, I have to also take a nutrition class too. Which is self-taught and the teacher doesn't really teach you, just grades you and gives you assignments to do to turn in. I will most likely apply next Fall towards the end for 2018 class..

I'm in my third semester of pre- and co-reqs right now. This semester is my last pre-requisite of A&P 1 (plus 3 other classes), my overall GPA is 4.0 and I'm hoping for an A in A&P (currently 97%). Next semester I'm taking Micro and A&P 2, applying for the program in April for a potential fall start. There are hundreds of applicants for 40 spots though, and I feel sick knowing that all of this could be for nothing. I have the TEAS test on Tuesday, pretty much taking it as a practice test so I can take it again in March if I need to.
