  1. I've been reading all the responses and I am so glad I'm not the only one who thought it was a bit much to kick me out of the program. I do have good news though: they accepted my appeal and I will soon get a letter officially recognizing my reinstatement. I am just glad I won this part and that I'll be able to graduate come May. They had a couple of my instructors from my prior semesters sit in on the appeal and they also got to vote. They were all very understanding and simply encouraged me to be more assertive with patients so that I can ensure I have done everything on my part. I do have a sort of red flag/tape all over my records now so one misstep that leads to a breach in a clients safety will get me immediately and completely kicked out. I am driven to make sure there is no situation that may put me in this place again. I really don't like the fact that I have to tiptoe for the rest of my clinicals but I'll take it. Thank you all so much -- this thread was a big help believe it or not.
  2. This was exactly the situation. He was on lactulose and was 50 so he really didn’t want to “go” on the bed. I slipped his grip socks on first and complied when he said he was fine with the walker. It says in the hospital report/documentation that his right knee tends to buckle. My instructor included that in her report too (it was not in his chart). It was all just a mess from the beginning but I felt cornered and felt that it was emergent. It’s true though, I would have rather just cleaned him up. I will definitely take that into account from now on though. If i don’t know the patient, i will get an aide or someone to help me
  3. Thank you guys soooooo much. I have probably released enough tears to fill a bathtub. The meeting was actually not a meeting. They just told me that I needed to recognize what happened and that they had to kick me out of the program. I got kicked out today and I have an appeal set for tomorrow. My instructor told me that i have a very clean record and that I know what I did wrong and what I will never repeat again. She told me to use this. I was also told that there is a possibility that the school can get sued and (me in turn). These posts have really helped me clear my head and prepare myself. Honestly though, I’m so thankful for your guys’ input bc you guys don’t know me and I tried to give all the facts — I’m killing myself thinking how much I should’ve just stepped out of the room and asked for a gait belt (one was hidden in the room and yes it’s supposed to be hanging by the door). I just wanted people who would give it to me straight. Anyway, I can’t change what’s happened but I just REALLY can’t imagine not being a nurse or even restarting the semester. I’ve alreafy prepared for graduation and even reached out to a couple of job positions. God willing, it’ll go well and I’ll be able to continue. Thanks again xx I’m going to go prepare and pray for the best
  4. Hi guys, it's been a while. I've just been sweating buckets about something and wanted to get some opinions. So, I was at clinical this morning from 0630 to 1400. I had a patient with renal/hepatic problems. He was a stand by assist 1. I answered his call light & he said he wanted to go to the bathroom. I looked around for a gait belt & couldn't locate one. He said that he is fine with just a walker. Now, we're told to always use a gait belt. I messed up and took him to the bathroom without one. Once he was done with his business, I went in to get him off the toilet (he had his walker in front of him & I was helping him to stand up. We locked arms and he was getting up when his right knee buckled and he fell to the side. I held on to him and tried to lower him as far as I could until gravity took over. He fell on his butt and later stated that he had some back pain (he normally has chronic back pain & I guess this aggravated it). I assessed him at the time and called in his primary nurse right away. She told me I should have probably used a gait belt (turns out it was behind the open door, tucked away on top of a table). She did say that it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway considering his knee buckled under him. They called in the doc and he said the same thing & suggested that he be more mobile to strengthen his muscles. My instructor on the other hand said that she would have to write me up anyway (which I completely understand). The thing is, she told me to meet her tomorrow after our exam to talk it over with the dean of nursing. I am freaking out about this soooooo much and I can't afford to because of my exam but I can't help it. I'm worried this might cause me to fail my clinical portion (and in turn, the entire semester -- this is my last semester before my NCLEX btw). Thoughts? I feel like I'm overthinking things but its just how I am. I can't get this whole day off my mind. . .
  5. I'm not too sure about NHCC but IHCC highly advises against it. They won't stop you but they'll make sure to try and convince you-- mainly for your sake lol. I think the main reason is the course load as well as the hours. We have class from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kind of hard to work, sleep, study, and eat with a sched like that **I just checked out NHCC's tentative schedule and it looks pretty full except you get off early some days and classes are 4 days out of the week. They're also all blended/hybrid courses
  6. Hey all!!! I'm so glad I found a topic on this! I got my acceptance letter from IHCC July 18 with a composite score of 12.3. No news from Century yet but I'm sure I'm headed for Inver =)
  7. UPDATE: I've been accepted into the program!!! I wasn't even waitlisted which is super common! I retook the TEAS after studying my behind off, scored an 85.7 & bumped my grades up so that my GPA is now a 3.7 (for the program). I just wanted to update you guys and thank those of you who cheered me on!! I can't even believe it . . .
  8. Thanks for the prompt reply!! I'm not entirely worried about the class. I was wondering if the sections of the TEAS exam are weighted differently based on the relevance of the subjects. Like, do you get a higher overall score if you have a higher score in science compared to english? Or are they all weighed equally? Edit: Never mind!! I realized that I could simply do the math on the scores I recieved and check it that way. They're all equally weighed. Thanks for the help anyway!!
  9. Hi guys. I've had a rough patch with my education where I went into a slump that just killed my confidence and drive. I had C's in most of my pre-reqs and was super nervous about the TEAS. Fortunately, I now have some good news!! I retook my gen bio class and flew through it with an A, completed my A&P II class with a high B, and bumped my gpa for my program up to a 3.7!! My school accepts students based on the grades for these classes: Gen Bio - A Gen Psych - A English - B Comm - A I received a 77% on my Teas. There is a point system here where they basically take your gpa (3.7) and add it to your TEAS score (7.7). The highest you can get is a 14 and I have an 11.4. 12 is the average acceptance which is why I am planning on retaking my TEAS set for the end of this month. My score should shoot up since I was only beginning A&PII when I took the TEAS and my science feedback was all of the organ systems I learned about after the exam. Which brings me to my question: Is the science section weighed more in your TEAS? Can my overall score significantly increase?? I would very much appreciate a quick answer =) (Feel free to point me to an FAQ from ATI if this info is available on their site!!) THANKS
  10. Hi Zahra!! (We have the same name >. I actually didn't score any higher than you (got a 77 with my lowest score being Eng usage). My science score was what brought it down though bc I was taking A&PII at the time and knew nearly NOTHING about the cardiovascular system, genitourinary, digestive etc. Anyway, I am currently using my feedback from ATI to study as well as some old TEAS practice books off amazon (they're cheaper than getting the TEAS 6 versions). I would personally depend on the McGraw Hill or ATI books with a few exceptions in other companies. Don't sweat it though & just review your trouble areas. I am scheduled to take my exam at the end of January & only just started to seriously review. Start with science since you didn't do as well (I think science, ironically, is a trouble area for most people including myself haha)! Then move onto your next worst subject while periodically reviewing the science and so on and so forth. I'm sure other people have better advice and sources you could use. Good luck!
  11. This. Sounds. Amazing.
  12. I am applying this February and hoping to start in the Fall semester which is August . . .. I'm sort of worried, (previous post will explain why) buuuut things have changed so I have decided to bite the bullet & just apply! I am currently finishing up my pre-reqs. I only have stats left but that's not a requirement until way later so I'll probably take it this upcoming semester. Currently taking Medical Terminology as a filler & it helps me brush up on my A&P. Its not a requirement to read the anatomy sections but they're right there & are very helpful in remembering the terms. Definitely would suggest it as a filler
  13. I know a couple of people who have taken both classes in the same semester but it wasn't at the same time. They took compressed versions of the class, A&PI from Aug to mid-Oct and then A&PII from Oct-Dec. It worked out pretty well so if you're confident enough you can try looking for compressed courses like that, I guess. If you're not working or taking any other demanding classes it might just work, but if you have even the tiniest bit of doubt, I wouldn't suggest it. I've learned this all the hard way haha
  14. I'll be closing this thread now (once I know how haha), thanks for all the helpful comments!! I'll figure everything out from here hopefully =)
  15. Thanks for the advice guys! I have to say that you (Buyer Beware) hit the nail on the head with the perfectionist comment but I think its more than just that. I'll try on working super hard from now on instead of falling into a state of doubt. Hopefully in a year or two I'll be in Nursing school writing up a post on how difficult it is!! You guys don't know how much more motivated I am now, thank so much!! (Hopefully it doesn't die out the second I hit a bump in the road, hehe)
