Hey I'm new to this site, and was just curious how Nova's nursing program is. I just got accepted into the Fall 2010 nursing program at the main campus in Davie. Any advice on how it is? Did you feel prepared when you took your NCLEX after completing the 27 month program? Would love to hear from anybody. I'm so excited and cant wait to start in august! :)
thanks for the info jerzianna! i just didnt want to be behind or anything with registering. so i guess ill just wait till orientation rite. i mean the website does say that they will regsiter us for the first semester at orientation and for the second semester we are responsible for ourselves. hope im reading this correctly. I went on the VIP page to try and look what you were talking about but couldnt find it? And wow i didnt know stethoscopes were that expensive. eekss.. anyways im free during the after noons and most evenings so anyday is good for me. Any suggestions on when to all meet up!? let me kno!
Hi!!
Well Jerziana pretty much summed up the whole day and all the details. The uniforms are HUGE!!!
As far as the stethoscopes, you do not need the cardiology one. The one NOVA requires is the Littmen Classic SE II it runs about $70.
I am super excited about buying my uniforms and books. I am also in Kendall campus with Jerziana!!!
Good luck!:):)
I don't think they require any specific type. My Parents gave me that one as a gift because they said when my sister was in nursing school she got the bookstore one and it sucked so they had wasted all that money and had to buy a better one. So they said they wante me to have a good one from the start.
wow.... you guys are so, so hopeful with information. Although I start in January 2011 I follow this thread and others because who better to get insights from then those who are currently going through the process.
I have a question that you guys can either answer here or through a private message.
Since the Kendall campus is now available, other then the distance are there any diffrences or perks between either campus ? I am trying to pick between both campus' and would like someone elses point of view on the decision. (I live smack in the middle of both so the driving would be the same)
Thank you guys so much for always sharing and helping with whatever information you have or know about.
Karina
Karina,
I did not pick Kendall campus, when you apply you either apply to Davie or Ft. Myers. Nova chooses for you between Davie and Kendall depending on your address. As far as perks, the first semester you will go half the day to Kendall and half to Davie in order to take the Anatomy class. So your still going to Davie everyday. Davie has a gym as far as I know and more resources but I actually prefer Kendall since its closer to home (I live in Doral).
Thank you Nicole for the email!!!
As far as schedules: I actually heard from the current advisor at nova (A.O) that our schedules will be available in the next "couple of weeks"!!! that would be great if true. lets wait and see.
Also, I got accepted to the Davie Campus, and did not get the baptist scholarship, yet my Webstar indicates: Miami-Kendall, FL as my campus. Totally confusing.
UGH. I feel so out of it. All this information you guys are staying, I feel like I had no idea about. I've been looking at the web page, but I guess since there is so much information I just dont SEE anything.
So let me ask: The shoes have to be white? I was planning on wearing all black Nike's but after reading everyone's response, I might be wrong! haha. Let me know.
And also, does anyone know if we're going to need the PDA soon? Like in the first semester? I know they make you buy one but around when will it be needed? I don't want to invest money at the moment on something I'll need later on
LMK ladies (and gents)
And as for orientation, I'm either going with my brother or my dad, or BOTH! ^_^
And about the uniforms: my mom told me about a Dickie's outlet by my house (which is by Dolphin & International Mall) that they sell nursing uniformed. But after reading here, I guess they wont all be the same colours ! My friend is currently in the nursing program and she sent me pictures of her wearing them, and they look like the teal/turquoise Dickie's has. If anyone has compared them let me know. And let me know which are the brands and colours that match the ones at Nova. I really don't want to make a trip over there, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to. I'm really short and always need my pants hemmed thats why I need to get 'em SOON!
After reading your posts and the person who got the XXS, I want to get those but want to try 'em on first. I'm like a S or M in regular tops, but in the Dickie's I tried on yesterday I'm a M. :x So they must run really really big.
WOO!
Hi KJB,
The shoes have to be white so Ive heard. Also, Jerziana and me got XXS because the small and Xsmall were huge!!! I am only 5 ft so I am have to get all my pants hemmed. I normally use a size 4 in pants and the XXSmall is what fit, I also got them pettite so I wouldnt have to hem them. This might help you deceide what size you are. Good luck!
Hello everyone... Marcy if your vip page says welcome to the Miami campus or something like that it means that you have been chosen to attend the Kendall campus site... we would only go to Davie for the anatomy cadaver class since we all take it together. The kendall site schedule is already up in the system when you go to NSU's website... hope this helped
And yes our shoes have to be white, no black or anything on them not even the nike check can be black.... mine are all white with some specks of silver lining... and we will use a PDA but in our second semester.... there is a list of phones that work as PDA's so you dont have to purchase one if you lets say already have an Iphone or I touch..... hope this info helped too...
As far as the uniforms some dickies the tones of color are off... they are probably going to be strict during the first semester and then we can start wearing other brands... but our color is called REAL TEAL and Zdream and I have compared other uniforms in every store and they are off in color from Nova... i am guessing that later on we could get away with it since its already awhile but at the beginning its like your first day of school.... they will probably be looking at EVERYTHING... i ordered mine already to see how the script is on the uniform, they are very specific on how your name and titles come out on the uniforms.... will let you all know once it comes in this week.....
Has anyone purchased the insurance? I know we can purchase it during orientation but i was wondering what exactly it covers??? It seems that we would have to go all the way to Davie to see specialists or docs when we are sick..etc.. and i dont want that since i was accepted into the scholars program i will be in kendall most of the school term. I was on hold forever and no one came on the line when i called and its super pricey.. i am already calling other insurance companies and receiving quotes from them as an independent. GRRRR frustrating!!!
Nicole, glad you liked the baby g watches!!! they last a looong time through vomit, diarrhea u name it... i will ask around for other brands as well....
As for the kendall campus its more personal cause its smaller.. the class sizes are smaller and its just more one to one since its a select group.... thats all the difference... im happy since i live in kendall and i love smaller classes i think you get more attention but then again i think all the scholars ppl go there too... and if you live close by thats how they determine you placement... they are so weird!
Well hope all this info helped.. the closer we get the more questions we have lol AAAAAAHHH when are we going to meet any time is good for me... during the week it has to be after 4pm since i work.... let me know.... till next time SHARKIESSS
