How is the BSN entry level program at Nova Southeastern University?

Hey I'm new to this site, and was just curious how Nova's nursing program is. I just got accepted into the Fall 2010 nursing program at the main campus in Davie. Any advice on how it is? Did you feel prepared when you took your NCLEX after completing the 27 month program? Would love to hear from anybody. I'm so excited and cant wait to start in august! :)

Hey Marcy0004! Congrats!! I am so excited (and SUPER scared) to start. I will let you know if and when we will meet! I think I'm going to get my scrubs in advance so i can have them ready to wear the first day. And as far as the shoes go, I found a pair of Nike Shox, but there is a tiny bit of sivler on the shox so i'm not sure if they're allowed... if anyone knows please let us know!

@ZDream624 - How'd the scrub search go? Any luck? Let me know so I can get some too :)

hey Nicole I went scrub shopping yesterday with Zdream and it literally took us the WHOLE day!!! We first went to Nova's bookstore, they have different scrubs for different types... ours is called REAL TEAL by Cherokee... Greys anatomy does not carry this particular color, we already did the research... I went to the another uniform place on US-1 with Zdream and we tried on the petite scrub sizes and let me tell you they run HUUUUGEEEEEEEE... we were shocked! I am an XXSmall in Petite!! I tried on the small and it was HUUUUGe i was like WOW!!! I wouldve ordered the wrong size... also Nova is very particular on the script that goes on the scrub and when u try to see what type of font it is it doesnt tell you so you cant really get them anywhere else.. cause it can be cursive, brushscript, etc.... so we were like AAAHHHHHHH, what I did today was order one pair since i already knew my sizes through the nova website and had mine engraved already to see how it looks.... then i will take the scrub top to other stores to see if they can match it. Because I expressed shipped my scrubs so i should be getting it by the end of the week or less. So i will let you all know. The scrub top is an XXsmall as well and i have big boobies lol and it was a little big but perfect, very comfy.. so you need to try them on first before you order! If me and Zdream wouldnt of done it then I wouldve been stuck with a really big size and we even took into consideration if we were to gain weight and everything the petite ones are flare on the bottoms with the slits and it has elastic in the back so if you do perhaps gain weight you should be fine.... trust me we tried to work around not going through nova but i rather buy one from them so i can see how the script is.... after that we can do whatever we want.... hope this info helped.

Also we looked at the Littman Stethescope and the colors online look completely different than in person.. we were originally looking at the pink one and it looks completely different in person it looks beige more than anything me and Zdream were like ewwwwwww lol the blue ones looked really pretty so just a heads up i know we dont need now i know but me and Zdream wanted to buy things little by little before letting our current jobs go u know so we are trying to buy things little by little....

The books is another issue im also a little confused about the editions...... half.com also has good deals but im scared about the editions... as far as shoes is concerned i already need to wear white shoes for work so i have the all white/silver Nike shocks... they hurt my feet after like 10 hours on them cause i know from work but i love the shocks... also its how your feet feel too, everyone is different

I have a website that some of my nurse co-workers use which is called Nurse mates... me and Zdream looked at some cute shoes from there too.... its all in preference.

Now the watches i have a techno and i am not going to mess that up in nursing school me and Zdream are stuck on that... any suggestions??? My nursing friends say to invest in something long term cause the cheaper you go the straps start to wear and tear... they suggested the G-shocks, baby-G and the all white and black Fossil watches.... but i dunno we are so worried and stuck about money....

I have baptist scholars but still personal use and materials are going to add up u know.. and i havent told my boss yet about me thinking of quitting because honestly.... our grades will probably suffer if we do.. we have to go to simulation lab and they havent posted how many hours we need or if we need to go ourselves for our own practice.. this is our future here, and i dont want to risk my career for a paycheck either.. but its so hardddddd.....

Ok i know this post was long but Zdream and I have researched a lot and i think she is also ordering one pair of scrubs too online today... so we will let you know when they come in...

hey jerziana, what is supposed to be engraved into the scrubs? our name and the school? and thanks for all the info bout the scrubs! cant wait to get mine. oh and were supposed to wait till orientation to register for classes right? my friend said that she alreay registered for them so im a lil confused if we can or not...

Hey yeah it's our name then I think it's says nursing and there is a third line but I can't remember what it said. And you can't preview your order. That's why I just wanted to order one then see if it can be duplicated elsewhere. Ok as for classes there's a choice now that you can opt to go to the Kendall campus. That's where I'm going it says it on your VIP page. The anatomy is all in Davie since we all take it together and it's a cadaver class. So that schedule is pretty much chosen like I already know the times and stuff maybe she is referring to that. But usually in orientation they choose it for you. But I think it's different for the Kendall campus. So that's probably what she means. Anything else just let me know hope this helped.

Jerziana, you are AMAZING!!!! lol you both have helped me out sooo much. I am planning on heading to the bookstore tomorrow then and try on sizes. I will also buy one pair, worse case scenerio I will wash it everyday the first week until I can get more haha! Maybe I need two... :/

So, Ya Littman's are the best. I know I don't need it right away (I'm assuming), but I did buy one online from a website alled Medisave.com. It was super cheap ($130 ish) considering the actualy Littman store wanted $200+ . Also, that website will engrave it for free :) I got the Cardiology III one becasue I talked to alot of Doctors and Nurses I know and they said it's the most sensitive. I got the Chocolate and Bronze one :) Also, if you google "Medisave.com coupon codes" you can find a discount or free shipping for that site!

I did order ALL my books. The admissions person said to find the current editions, which I did, and buy them. I have the pictures if you send me your email I'll forward them all. I found that amazon.com has the best deals. They are significantly cheaper than the bookstore (of course!) and a bit cheaper than half.com. The only benefit is that Amazon.com will get the shipped super fast and its free shipping on ALL orders over $25. Which is awesome because half.com is 3.99 per book I think.

As far as the watches go, I have an older Fossil. But, it is silver and I think it will get all gross... My sister (a nurse practitioner) said to buy cheap plastic watches because I will go through them alot because they will get gross and vomity, etc. Also, another Nova alumni told me to go cheap as well. Besides, if we get cheapy $10 watches, they'll last a few months and we can change them! Since we are in strict uniforms, it is a way to stylize yourself! lol Just a thought

About the shoes, I found Nike Shocks, but there is a tiny bit of silver on the shocks. I was hearing that even a slight silver will get you sent home... makes me nervous :/ I'll check out the Nursemates, maybe I'll invest in both to see which one they'd prefer and return the other one.

Ya, I was only going to work minimum, I'm talking like 8-10 hours a week. That may even be too much. I just need enouigh to pay my car and my misc items each month. I just moved home with my parents so I don't need to worry about rent.

And, yes I am planning on bringing my father and bf to orientation (they like to be involved haha). They will take a separate car, though, so if need be I can leave them :)

As far as meeting... I am available for lunches Monday and Saturday... Hopefully everyone else is too... if not I can easily switch a shift with someone to get another day off. Everyone, let me know!!!! :D

Wow so much information!!! Thank you all! This is making me so nervous. I just got my package in yesterday and there is so much stuff to read through! Just want to make sure I'm on the same page as everyone..the only two forms we need to send to Nova are the NSU State Aid Application and the Florida Resident, correct? I need to get started on getting my books and scrubs! Reading from you all makes me feel so behind lol

Kpham, you also have to send in the intent to enoll form. (I think that's the name of it). It's in your packet. If u need anything else ask any of us!

Nicole, I sent that form already, but thank you! There's just a couple things I'm confused about...when to pay the semesters tuition and what documents we need to send up for Florida residency. I know on the form there is a list of documents we need to send up but we send just a couple of things from the list, like what we have available, correct? AND I would love to meet up with you all for lunch!
