How is the BSN entry level program at Nova Southeastern University?

Published

Hey I'm new to this site, and was just curious how Nova's nursing program is. I just got accepted into the Fall 2010 nursing program at the main campus in Davie. Any advice on how it is? Did you feel prepared when you took your NCLEX after completing the 27 month program? Would love to hear from anybody. I'm so excited and cant wait to start in august! :)

No Jani, you have to pay it out of pocket.

so when do we get our 1000 back ? online it said we have to pay our fees minus the 1000

@karina that's what I read too, so I figure they would subtract it from the tuition!! I'm gonna have to call and ask

Hey guys. Just wanted to say Congrats to all that have been accepted for January. :yeah:

I just started this semester, and believe me you have your work cut out for you. It's a huge life adjustment. You'll have to work for every point (Physio/Anatomy), but you'll feel the reward. If you have any questions, especially about the first semester you can e-mail me at [email protected] .

-As for your question about the $1000, that comes out of pocket. It's to save your seat pretty much.

-Also, I would try to get your school ID and Car sticker before the Christmas break otherwise you'll be in line with everyone else that waited last minute, at Orientation.

-And lastly (from the top of my head), you can wear tennis shoes, and a NOVA t-shirt with the teal uniform pants the first semester. While you wait for your embroidered uniform tops and white jacket. So in other words I ordered the tops & jacket from the school and purchased the bottoms from a uniform store. Your choice. I just found it to be easier that way. I know people who bought everything from a store and had it embroidered elsewhere. I don't think they saved all that much more. You'll be able to purchased offical NOVA nursing t-shirts (short and long sleeved) in January after you start. I would suggest you plan on purchasing a few of them. Since they're only offered once, sometimes twice a semester.

Like I said if you have any questions shoot me a e-mail.

Hi everyone!!!

First of all Congratulations to everybody!!! I will be starting January 2011 as well... I actually signed up for the Miami campus, but apparently I have to drive to FTL for the first semester since the Anatomy class is going to take place in the main campus.. Is anyone on the same boat? Also, I wont be able to attend the orientation because I am going to be out of the country until january 8th . Do we need scrubs for our first semester? What about lab coats and the estethoscope? Sorry, I know I am asking a bunch of questions, but I just want to make sure that I am not missing anything on the first day of class. I am planning on ordering my books next week; I think I will use amazon for that. Any info will help me a lot!! Thanksss!!!

Hi Jennifer! So you will be going to the kendall campus? That's awesome!! What sucks is that the first semester we have to drive to the main campus for the anatomy class. By the way my name is Ana and I will be starting in the winter class as well!!

Hey Ana,

For the scrubs & labcoat I ordered them online www.nsuuniformstore.com you can order lab coat and scrubs there. I bought 2 scrubs with embroidery for $82.00 and lab coat I bought it seperately. I already completed my vaccines the only thing im pending is to pay my tuition which I will do next week and buy books which will also be done next week. I am also going to kendall campus hope to see u in class. My name is stephanie so if you want u can email me at [email protected].

Cant wait to meet you all we are only about a month away =]

Hello AnaB87,

I was also accepted into the Kendall Campus. Congratulations on your acceptance!! Unfortunetly, we will have to drive to Fort Lauderdale for the Anatomy/Physiology classes :-( but it is only for the first semester. After that, we will be strictly in Kendall! As for the uniforms, we don't need to have them on for the first semester, we could wear business attire (its what I heard). However, for second semester we do need them! Labcoats I am not sure but I suggest you order them ASAP becuase they take quite some time to get here! We don't need any stethescope yet, at least not until the second semester since we start clinicals then. If you want, send me a message and I will send you my personal email just in case you have any other questions, I would be happy to help; since we are going to be future classmates :-)

If any of you have any questions, here is my person email: [email protected]

I'd be more than happy to help!!

I am also starting in Winter for the Kendall campus. I guess I am the only guy here so far. Wondering if anyone knows where I can get my scrubs embroided (if thats a word). I was given the scrubs, but without the embroidery. I'm going to get the textbooks probably next week or so. I checked on Amazon, that seems to be the cheapest place to find them. Sucks to have to drive to up North, when I live right on Kendall, lol. Congrats to everyone who got accepted!!!

i'm going to the davie campus. you're going to the kendall campus right? i turned in all of the paperwork we needed to turn in. my immunization records are still pending but i heard that we have to bring in copies of the records on orientation day.

has anyone (including you futurenurse) been cleared as a florida resident yet? i received a grant from financial aid and then they cancelled it because they said that it has to do with the whole rsidency thing. has that happened top anyone else?

  • hello there futurenutrie, studying tip for a&p can be challenging sometimes, but not so much for anatomy (oh and you get to study with cadavers; not pigs like in previous classes);

  • the best way that worked for me was to tape record the class in case i miss anything during class, i would listen to it on the way to school before class and i would ask the professor questions in case i had any missunderstandings :uhoh3:;
  • at the end of the week i would get together with a group of friends and go over each power point slide; sometimes each person understands the same material different or writes notes that you might have missed, so study groups are a great way to learn from each other; a tip is to print your power points 3 slides per page so you can write next to them :)!!
  • do charts to compare stages, such us the stages of muscle contraction or nerve conduction;
  • at the end it all the depends on how you learn, i am consider myself nerdy :clown: so i would research something in all types of ways until i understood it, even if it took me 3 books :) and several websites; but at the end it was worth it; i got an award for doing great in class!
  • good luck!

oh as far as the iphone, back then no one had one :) so you guys have to ask if they let you use it as a pda, but don't worry you only need it until 2nd semester.

i will also be a student at nova for the winter 2011
