Hey I'm new to this site, and was just curious how Nova's nursing program is. I just got accepted into the Fall 2010 nursing program at the main campus in Davie. Any advice on how it is? Did you feel prepared when you took your NCLEX after completing the 27 month program? Would love to hear from anybody. I'm so excited and cant wait to start in august! :)
Im still debating about working. I work now full time, mon-fri 9-5pm and do not know if my boss will let me work only saturdays for eight hours atleast for the first semester. I currently live with my parents (i just turned 20yrs) so that helps ALOT but I am use to paying for ALL my needs and expenses. As far as the books I do know that the list is up but I guess I will start buying them little by little.
For the scrubs I guess ill wait til orientation so that I can know our rules! I wish orientation was at the beginning of Agust to give us time to purchase what we need.
In only a month and half we start school!!!
Zdream, I agree! Let's all meet up, & meet together for Orientation :)NewRN, Thanks again for all your answers! I hope you enjoy your weekend and I have a few more questions that you can possibly answer when you get back. I believe we are to get Protective eye gear, bandage scissors and pen lights, like you already said correct? Can they be any color?
From my understanding, we are to get the FNSA Membership. I know we have a choice to pay for 1 or 2 years, what would you suggest? If we have to have it for thw two years whil we're in the program, might as well get the 2 years membership right away.
Also, I know we need a watch with a second hand. Can that also be ANY color? or texture, such as metal, leather, rubber, etc. Digital or analog? Sorry for all my specific questions, lol!!
Enjoy you weekend once again!!!!
Hello Pink Nurse!; they didn't require us to get protective eye gear so i don't know about that; the bandage scissors can be any color, the same for the penlights and like i said before get too since the penlights are cheap :)!.
as for the FNSA membership we didn't do that either so i can't give you advice.
As for the watch with the second hand it can be any color as well, i would recommend plastic, you are going to be washing your hands A LOT, and things can get in them such as vomit, blood, diarrhea sorry so yeah don't get leather please. as for digital or analog it depends on what you find easier, to count the pulse its easier for some people with analog watches so it depends on your style.
Hi Nicole14,For the shoes I was thinking of getting Nike Shox since thats what I usullay wear. As far as the scrubs Idk if they have to be ingraved, I hope not... I wanted to buy mines somewhere else. I heard about the bookstore being a rip off but im not sure if we should buy our books before we start????

I have also been wondering about the bookbag. I am petite and would hate carry more than two books on my back! but I dont want to be the only one with a rolling book bag. I usully went to school with my binder and a purse. I guess ill wait to the first week of school and see how many books I have to take in one day :)
I am SUPER excited to start! I want to start buying supplies now that way it wont be a TON of cash all in one week. Do you plan to work while in the program? Hope to see you at orientation
.
Hello Zdream; I felt the same way as you did, I wanted to be the only one with a rolling book bag but at the end it didn't make a difference by 2nd semester you have so many books and things that I didn't care, I am also petite and besides that loved checking out different books from the library so it was to my advantage to have one:up:
Good luck!
Oh I forgot to tell you guys something, they will make you buy a PDA worth like $300 in 2nd semester, and buy like 3 or 4 programs in which you can access medications, laboratory values, and a medical dictionary
What i did with some friends was to buy a program and they give you like two different codes, so you guys can split it in 2.

Hi NewRN,
Do you think that an iPhone will work for this? It has many many apps, I have one and wouldn't want to waste another good amount on a PDA?!
-Hello everyone I got accepted into Nova's Winter 2011 term (Spring) and I cant thank you guys enough for starting this thread. It really is opening my eyes to how my way of schooling is about to change. I'm not starting until January but it already feels overwhelming. But I'm so excited!!
-Hey NewRN1986, do you have any tips for studying A&P? Can you tell us what studying tips you have in general?
-I'm counting on you 2012 Sharks give the next term advice since you guy are ahead of us if you have time. Congrats again and good luck to everyone!
CONGRATS FUTURENUTRIRE!!!!!!!!!! When we really want something we can get it..... just have to be patient even if it kills us!!!! I will provide as much information as I can when i get there first!!!
Also I just got a call that I was accepted into the Baptist Scholars program.. I am more excited than ever.... dont even know what to think or write. You can do whatever you set your mind to.
WAIT A PDA????? I just remembered that?? WHY???? I have an IPONE isnt that the same.... Do students bring their laptops to take notes lol lol this is such a new ball game for me i dont even know where to begin.... WE ARE SHARKSSSSSSSSS
CONGRATULATIONS Jerzinna!:) You must be so happy not to worry about tuition now..lol oh and i was in the area today and stopped by the Nova bookstore.. i tried on the scrubs and feel like the xs are huge well at least the pants felt that way!! but they look so cute, love loveeee loveee the teal! they have the pen lights also. And just if anyone was wondering the scrub top is 14.99 and the scrub pants are 15.99 at the nova bookstore, don't know if there cheaper somewhere else, ill have to look into it..and they have the lab coats there too that you can try on, so you know what size to order.. i didnt buy any of that stuff yet just figured id look around first, just trying them on made me realize that we have about a month and a half until the journey begins!! cant wait to meet you all at orientation, GO SHARKS!!
thanks nurse2be for the info... the scrubs are actually not that expensive!! but i think we can find them somewhere else cheaper.. they are suppose to be really strict about the uniform... and our shoes, socks, even undershirts need to be white.... just a suggestion, in my job i have to wear scrubs and i wear the underarmour brand like the dry fit ones because it can get hot and you dont feel it under your scrubs then when its cold it warms u up... its expensive too but just a thought... do we need to have our names engraved into our scrubs? anyways, we start soon and i cant wait... they said the library there is huge!!!!! i am excited to meet all of you... what a relief... now i want to see what my scholars packet says.. thats also another stress reliever... i am so happy for all of us, we have been through our trenches but we will soon be sharkies!!!! we have to get through the first semester as best as we can especially the anatomy class.... aaahhhhh grrrrrrrrrrr
class of 2012!!!!!!!!

Hey,
Yes, i am going to work. But I am only going to work 2 nights a week (Friday and Saturday). I just moved home with my parents, so I will not have any crazy bills... just my car payment. Ya, I was going to wait until the first week for the bookbags as well. As far as the scrubs go, I have heard that most people suggest we go through the bookstore, because Nova is very strict about uniforms. And, they jack up the prices at the bookstore like crazy, so I will be buying mine from Amazon or half.com. The book list is already posted online, so I was just going to follow that and look them up online. I have slowly been buying my supplies, I don't want to have to rush to get everything at once last minute. plus, I have noticed that all the stuff we need will add up quickly, so I am buying slowly as well. I am so excited! HaHa
