Houston Residencies Summer 2019!!

Published

Can you believe applications have started opening up? Anyway, just an early start for everyone to discuss.

I'm planning on applying to Harris Health, Memorial Hermann, Methodist, & TCH, and I will be applying to multiple locations for each. I'm trying to decide if I should branch out and apply at some places out of state or not since I want a very demanding specialty, but I'm not necessarily ready to uproot my family just for my residency. I'm open to suggestions or thoughts from others who have been through this part of the experience already.

So, my Nurse residency program at women's doesn't start until 8/26, and I'm wondering if any of y'all have any good summer job ideas while I wait for the program to start? Preferably using my BSN degree, because my backup is just being a hostess.

I wonder if you could look into maybe being a summer school nurse? (If that’s a thing) Or summer camp nurse? I know people who’ve definitely done summer camp nursing even without a bsn. I feel it would mostly be handling injuries and medications that kids have to take everyday, but still something to earn income until August!

Awesome. I’m in NICU. Happy to have a break but it seems so far away!

That’s for all of HCA Women’s Services. I’m in L&D at Southeast and my start date is 8/26 as well

If you don’t find anything... I have a REALLY good special needs and chronic illnesses camp that has helped me learn things about pedi but also as newborns. Lemme know if you are interested

What's the camp called? Sounds awesome!

Camp For All! I can tell you more about it if you want! I’ve worked there for 5 years now and it is literally the greatest place in the world. The website is campforall.org

You can also look at the different partner groups that come and see if they are oooking for nurses.

Thank you. Does this mean they did not fill up their spots?

The recruiter told me they still had a lot of hiring to do. Especially for med surg.

I am also on mother baby at women’s! Yay! I’m working at a summer camp for 5 weeks. I know mine is fully staffed now but would def recommend doing camp if you can, I worked there as a student and you learn so much and get a ton of independence. I know some others in Texas are camp Lyon (kerrville) camp rainbow (houston), and camp bluebonnet (Austin). These ones are for type 1 diabetic kiddos and they’re all great. The recruiter also told me the date might change to beginning or mid August and would let us know if that happened ! !
