I'm currently a new grad that started working in the hospital already but without a residency. Typically they would have me in a residency class but I think I was the only new grad hired this time and then they cancelled the Summer residency. I have heard from other RNs on my unit that the residency classes weren't really that crucial. Mostly stuff like self-care, adapting to the job, etc. More general stuff. They said the orientation on the unit is the most important. My educators said if there is an October or Winter residency group that begins, I can take residency classes with them once a month.

What hospital hired you if you don’t mind? Since you have started already should be no problem sharing it.

I’m working at MD Anderson. I was hired in March (graduated in May).

St Luke’s: The information posted previously is inaccurate, because I know of at least 5 interviews happening this week. So if you don’t have reputable information please do not cause a freak out of applicants.

I don’t think anyone post misinformation intentionally. Information is shared as received. As adults, do as you will with the information that is provided. The recruiter did state there was a possibility some additional position filled request may come later. I guess this is later.

Was anyone able to to contact St Luke’s at all to ask for updates?

I reached out last Wednesday and she said they were still actively extending offers. Haven't emailed since then because didn't want to seem annoying. If there is another wave of interviews going this week, I'm sure we will hear something (good/bad) by Friday.

I emailed the recruiter yesterday afternoon to get more information but she hasn’t emailed me back yet. I did email her last Thursday and she emailed me back that day saying that she was expecting more offers the next few weeks though.

Hello,

Does anyone know when St. Luke's next application cycle will open? The website says mid-August but when I search their listings I haven't found any for the Houston area. Thank you!

Thanks, I am at a disadvantage because I can't really relocate. Does anyone know of any small hospitals in the houston area that I could apply to? I have tried everything. MH, TCH, Methodist, St Lukes, MD Anderson, HCA, UMMC

I was wondering the same thing! Please keep me updated if they open their application and I will do the same ^^

Has anyone heard of anyone getting a job in a hospital (not home health) without a residency program? This is all so frustrating.

Yes, someone I know just did. It is a small specialty hospital and they don't normally hire new grads. But she has some inside connections. They cobbled together a preceptorship.

I’ve seen on facebook groups that St Joseph’s has a residency program! You could also look into the VA’s Residency
