I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.
I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

Yeah for sure there are still alternates and stuff but many of them shadowed the nurses yesterday and today to help them narrow down the applicant pool

I may have psyched myself out are we talking about Memorial Herman or Houston Methodist. I applied for Memorial. All these abbreviations have me confused.

In their prematch they said $29.10 per hour

Yes Memorial HFICU called me to shadow yesterday but I couldn't because I live out of town. Then they asked me to do a peer interview this morning but I decided to decline because I already have another offer and didn't want to waste anyone's time

That was super considerate of you! I didn’t apply to adults MHTMC, but it’ll definitely help someone else get employed sooner hopefully !!
Does anybody else just feel super defeated? I only got one interview, and it was a prescreen. But it went so well! We really connected, and I could tell the interviewer enjoyed talking with me. I don’t know why I didn’t get a second interview for that location.
I guess I don’t understand what I could’ve done differently to make myself more appealing. I have a strong GPA at a good school, letters of recommendation, a capstone clinical in the field I’m applying to, and had my resume looked over by our academic coach :(

I’ve been telling all my friends the same thing, it was NOTHING anybody did. I honestly feel like this round of jobs was like playing the lottery... some hospitals only hired up to 8 new grads TOTAL ! almost 2000 applicants were fighting over 500 spots. I have a group of 6 friends and only 2 of us have been hired. Pleaseee don’t feel like it was you or something you did or didn’t do, there’s honestly just too many ppl looking for nursing jobs here in Houston and these hospitals are just too ignorant to hire more new grads bc of COVID even though they won’t stop complaining about the shortage of nrses ?

100% with you. ? I turned down two clinical RN positions because I decided I wanted acute care. Now I wonder if I shot myself in the foot. One pre-screen interview (which I thought went really well- but haven't heard anything back) is all I have had as well. I have over 15 years in the medical field (as a CMA) so feel like I have a strong resume. It's very discouraging. I never thought I would have a problem finding a job! I also already graduated so I'm literally just waiting till July for one of these positions.... it's a terrible feeling. Definitely defeated tonight.
Don’t lose hope yet!! I think there are still units who haven’t called to give offers yet. I received my offer on Thursday but I think they have SO many people to go through so it’s just taking time!
I wanted to start a GroupMe for the new hires just to keep each other up to date, from what I understand we only have 30 days to sign up for benefits/retirement. I’m going to post the link below!

My application still says under review /: I interviewed with the PICU at TMC— thinking that they already made all of their offers
