Did anyone see House, MD last night? Normally I really like the show, but recently it's gotten on my nerves. Last night, after the patient soiled himself, the doc looked over at the other one and said, "We need a nurse!" AAGH!! Not only do the docs mix and administer all meds, draw labs, code the pts singlehandedly, deal w/family, operate CT/MRI machines, etc, but they have to make it seem that all the seldom seen nurses do is clean crap!~ Bleccchhh. I think I've lost my appetite for House, MD.
Any additional thoughts?:angryfire

If you really want to get mad, read S. Gordon's "Nursing Against the Odds" chapter on media stereotypes where she catalogues the examples of nurses on TV being nothing more than bimbos fodder for the docs.

It was kind of lame, yes. I love House---- so much so that one of my birthday presents is an autographed picture of Hugh Laurie, so much so I spent forty dollars on the House first season DVD and another eighty for a DVD player when I am on a sad-ass CNA budget. BUT, you may be interested to know that House has a message board on their website so if you want you can tell them as much as you want. Just type in House MD on your search engine.

I like House - but I don't expect it to depict real life - it is an escape for me. After all, how many times do you really see a Dr. digging up a dead cat to test it, as they did in one episode? Obviously, almost all of it is made-up, but that's why I enjoy it. I need my escapes once in a while.

It was funny that i read your posting today, I do not watch this show, but do watch Gray's Anatomy on Sunday eve, and i had to laugh because one of the jr. resident insulted a nurse :angryfire (calling her for a duty such as you said in your post, in an insulting tone) and the jr. resident's life was made a living hell for the rest of the day and at the very end she found out that it was not her attending doing this but the nurse herself (paging her for every puking, code brown pt she had)...... moral of the story don't underestimate the power of the nurse or the skill! :rotfl: i was pleased!

Most of the the "medical" shows glorify the doctors. Which is why i'll watch the shows once, maybe twice, then just say no.

I thought that was kind of funny that he asked for a nurse too to clean the crap. I was actually watching it with my fiance and I turned and looked at him and said that that is not all nurses do. I still like the show, I will still watch it, there is more things in life to get mad at.

Yes Steve I did see and hear it.....they could have helped him themselves...could have called for an CNA....I can tell you that I did see one of our MD's empty a bedpan once.......I was speechless....but after I worked with him more I realised he is a very kind man...he knows how busy we are, cares alot about his pt's and the nurses.

I do not watch House myself. I've tried a few times but can barely stomach the show, so end up turning it. I ignore it most times.
As for Grey's Anatomy.........luv that show!!! I try to watch every episode! :) I saw Sunday's show, too, and got the biggest laugh out of the scene where "The Nurse" had "The Resident" running her buns off to teach her not to mess with nurses. :rotfl: It was definitely a living Kodak moment...a must see for all nurses! :rotfl:
I love it too cheerfuldoer,
It took me a while to not picture the movie "Can't buy me love" and Patrick on his lawnmower, I don't know what it was, i did not even like the movie but it stuck in my mind.

The last thing I want to see is a medical show after I get off work.
