House, MD last night.....AAAGH!

Published

Did anyone see House, MD last night? Normally I really like the show, but recently it's gotten on my nerves. Last night, after the patient soiled himself, the doc looked over at the other one and said, "We need a nurse!" AAGH!! Not only do the docs mix and administer all meds, draw labs, code the pts singlehandedly, deal w/family, operate CT/MRI machines, etc, but they have to make it seem that all the seldom seen nurses do is clean crap!~ Bleccchhh. I think I've lost my appetite for House, MD.

Any additional thoughts?:angryfire

I like the show because i enjoy watching them get to the bottom of something. The show is called House so I don't expect much from them as far as nurses go. It is unrealistic, even for docs. But are any of you old enough to remember "Nightingales"? Now that was a horrible show and actuaally had potential. If medical shows bother , write your own pilot. I love Grey's Anatomy and especially loved the chief resident's line about pissingoff the nurses....isn't it true? We have the power people just learn how to use it!!!:chuckle

As for Grey's Anatomy.........luv that show!!! I try to watch every episode! :) I saw Sunday's show, too, and got the biggest laugh out of the scene where "The Nurse" had "The Resident" running her buns off to teach her not to mess with nurses. :rotfl: It was definitely a living Kodak moment...a must see for all nurses! :rotfl:

I agree - I loved that! It's good for even pre-nursing students. Kind-of a boost of confidence. ;)

I have worked in more than one teaching facility. Let's just say that many a resident who came in with that "attitude", you know the one. "I got MD behind my name now so that means I know everything" attitude tended to get far less sleep at night than a resident who treated the nursing staff with respect and listended to the experienced.

nurses It's a strange phenomenon how that works out.....

The only medical shows I like are Scrubs and ER. They both put nurses in a good light (I love Carla and the older nurse on Scrubs). and on ER they have attitude and do a lot of things. Scrubs comes back on in January yeah!!!! I've been missing it SOOO much.

Most of the the "medical" shows glorify the doctors. Which is why i'll watch the shows once, maybe twice, then just say no.

I don't watch ANY medical shows after ER.

I loved the motorcycle scene. But that's just cause I like motorcycles. :)

I watched House until Gena Davis became the Commander in Chief. Probally will watch reruns, hey, it's just mindless entertainment. I just wish he wouldn't abuse drugs so much. Thanks for tip on House MD.com

One of the "Medical Diety" resident learned the hard way of what happens when you tick off the nurses.

This person got 2 am Tylenol calls/ dressing change request at 4am (RN's were not allowed to do dressing changes) and phone calls. for diet orders at 11pm.

The RN's were also not available to help the Medical Diety, when they came in to do daily rounds.

Let's just be honest here. Nurses rule and that's how it is. :)

I like House - but I don't expect it to depict real life - it is an escape for me. After all, how many times do you really see a Dr. digging up a dead cat to test it, as they did in one episode? Obviously, almost all of it is made-up, but that's why I enjoy it. I need my escapes once in a while. :D

Yeah, or sending his students out to break into a pt's house in order to gather more hx. Right! How stupid and unrealistic is that. Still, I watch it because I like to watch Hugh Lurie and his charcter is such a hoot. Do you ever find yourself cheering when he says exactly what many of us are thinking (but don't say out loud). Good light entertainment.:rotfl:

I'm a nursing student, and while doing my observation in the OR I saw a resident insert a foley and an attending clean a patient after they soiled themselves (all while the operation prep was being done, not during surgery), while 2 RN's were also in the room. I don't know if this is a regular thing in the OR or not, but it was definately the first time I saw MD's do patient care. It's nice to know that there are some MD's that are willing to do patient care.

I always enjoy it when I see him saying what I want to say but can't. I'm a professional, after all. Gahhhhh
