Hello all!
I just recieved my offical employment letter for my upcoming job, which states my position is "part-time". However when speaking with the nursing recruiter I was told I would be working 36 hours (rotating could do 8's or 12's). I NEED these hours as I am moving out of state for this job.
I am just a bit freaked out, my recruiter wasnt in today for me to speak with her, I WILL be calling her to confirm. does anyone else work where 36 hours is still considered part-time? Ugh i have a sinking feeling in my stomach now and I am worried sick about this...
I work three 12's which equals 36 hours. It is full time. If I work 37 hours its over-time. For a regular 8 hr/day employee 40 hours is full time, anything over 8 hours in a work day is over time as well as anything over 40 hours in a work week. I signed a waver for 12 hr shifts, anything over 12 hours is over time as is anything over 36 hours in a work week...You need to check your state laws.
At my hospital anything under 40 hr/wk is considered part time. A 36 hour week is .9 of full time. A 32 hour wk is .8 of full time. My hospital provides benefits to anyone who works a .6 or greater. I know very few nurses who work a 40 hour week, and they are 20+ year employees of the hospital; full time positions are not even offered anymore where I work.
Yep, that's how it is where I work.
where i used to work, if you worked 3 12 hour shifts in a row, that was considered to be fulltime. if you worked 8 hour shifts instead though, you had to work 40 hours/week in order to be considered fulltime.
another facility i worked for, any number of weekly hours over 37.5 was considered to be fulltime. the sneaky thing was that they could average your hours worked over a
180 day period for benefit purposes. in other words, you were paid for any hours you worked that were in excess of your "usual" number in that pay period, but how much you paid for your insurance was evaluated every 180 days, if your hours worked varied and hovered right around 37.5.

I agree with some of the posts, if this is a union hospital speak with the rep.
Full-time versus Part-time, what matters is benefits.
How are you paid. Straight time or overtime after 8? How are you paid for time off (sick pay, vacations, holidays)? Is it based on status, hours worked, or 8 hour days?
I would also get it in writing. If it's a union job then it should all be in the contract.

I was just offered a .9 position that the Manager said was full time when I interviewed but the recruiter when I was about to close the deal said my documents would say part-time for 36hrs. Assuming this is FTE? Also what's the purpose of this? There has to be some reason why they do this....
