That sounds low for So Calif. The wages should be tops there.

It is low, but surprisingly that's about the average starting base pay. Good Samaritan offers about $28 basepay for 8 hrs and then time and a half afterwards. I think UCLA's basepay is around $30. Interim Permit nurses at Good Samaritan only pays $23!

My girlfriend got offered $28 at Little Company of Mary in Torrance, but she negotiated it up to $31. I am starting at $31 at UCIMC in Orange County.

This is low but you have to keep in mind that many of the area employers have been lowering their wage bases over the past few years. You are very lucky to have been given an offer at any rate, so best to be thankful. Good luck in your new job.

Just noted OP in 2007, but info still applies. Wonder if employer is still making job offers at $28/hour.

This sounds incredibly low for CA. Also keep in mind that CA state taxes are around 9-10%... Your take home pay will be peanuts after you deduct state and federal taxes...

This thread was a couple years ago. Many people don't realize new graduate nurses in LA and Orange County actually don't make that much. Why? Because who doesn't want to live in Southern California?

I live an hour and a half inland. I was actually going to get a job in Orange County because I figured the pay would be hire, and working nights, I'd miss traffic so the drive wouldn't be that bad. I was wrong, I would have taken over a 2$/hr paycut, and changed my drive from 15 minutes to almost an hour. Who in their right mind would do that?

2 years ago 28/hr base pay was accurate, and I doubt it's gone up much now because of the current economy.

$28 an hour sounds about right if you are a new grad with no experience! I would think its a little low if you have a couple of years of experience under your belt :down:
