  1. I was in the August 2010 training program and was so excited and surprised to hear how many people were hired for the March 2011 group. Congratulations to everyone who made it! They only hired for the adult nursing floors and only hired 1 for peds for my group. At first they weren't even going to have the March 2011 training program because there are at lot of changes that will be going on this year. As someone mentioned, we will be changing our charting system which was why it was said there wasn't going to be a program after my cohort.... until our nurse educator told us to tell our friends in December that there was going to be one! Many people have mentioned that it helps to know an "insider" and I must agree with them that it really really helps. For those who didn't get in, don't be disappointed. Get involved in the community and NETWORK. Networking is seriously the way to go right now. Volunteer, work as a CNA/PCA, whatever it takes. Good luck!
  2. It will be hard at first, but here's my word of advice. The night before you have to work a 12hr night shift, sleep at a normal hour or you can stay up a little later, but I would advise nothing past 1am. Sleep for a good 8 hours or whatever your body likes, but DO NOT over sleep. Wake up say 10am and get some stuff done. Then around 3pm or so take a nap until about 5-6pm (depending on how long your commute will be). Then get your "day" started as you would for a day shift. Some people like to sleep during their lunch break instead of eating, but that would be something you need to figure out because you know your body best. I didn't like to sleep during my lunch break because it made me even more tired so if anything I would only take a 15 min power nap. To get back onto a day schedule for your days off, I would suggest not sleeping in. Say you worked Monday night and get home Tuesday morning and have the next 2 days off. I would sleep for about 4-5 hours and try to be awake by 12pm to get my body back to a "normal person schedule". Also starting on a new unit on night shift allows you to have more time to think things through and look up certain disease processes, plan of care for the patient, etc. I worked both night and day shift and I'm a new grad. So one of the few perks was that I was able to read up more about my patients course of hospitalization and give better hand off reports! Good luck!!
  3. You've gotta look and really do your homework. Keep in touch with your classmates because chances are they may know something. The other option is just checking websites and calling HR. I've been out of school since May 2009 and I was finally able to find a job. It will take time but be patient. Finding a job is pretty much a full time job in itself! Testa: Sorry to hear what you're going through. But I know in time all new grads will be able to find a job! Are you keeping your options open to nursing homes, skilled nursing facilities, private offices, etc? Keep your head up and best of luck to you and all new grads!
  4. Try Uniform Advantage. This is the only store I go to when I'm in the Sacramento area visiting family. Their address and contact information is: 2920 Arden Way Suite D Sacramento, CA 95825 Mon-Sat 10-8 * Sun 12-5 916-485-2000 They are near Arden Mall. Sometimes I find cheaper deals on their online store than their actual store. Hopes this helps!
  5. I just know that interviews are going on right now up to the 25th. I got an email saying there were over 700 applicants for 16 positions and hiring decisions will be made by the end of the month. If you don't hear anything from HR by the end of the month, you can make the assumption you were not selected for an interview. sim007, do you mind sharing which unit you will be interview for and where your friend interviewed at? Best of luck, everyone!
  6. Maybe this would help? http://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov/aspdotnet/SupportPage/AllOESWage.aspx?soccode=291111
  7. I'm sorry... but thanks for the information. There's a job out there and it has our name written all over it... it's just a matter of finding that job. Best of luck to you!!
  8. I didn't get a rejection email but my status changed to "sorry not selected" what a bummer... I've been waiting to apply to Stanford for so long. I've been out of school for almost 9 months now. But we can't dwell over it, gotta keep moving forward! The only thing I sort of had with Stanford was that I precepted at Lucile Packard, if that made any difference. Good luck to everyone who has an interview and congratulations to everyone who made it this far!! I too would also like to know how the one-on-one turns out just for future reference.
  9. Oh no! They're sending out rejection emails already? Fort those who got a rejection email, what does your status online say? Ugh, I'm getting so nervous!
  10. Congrats and good luck to everyone who has an interview!!!! :] Northbay, I'm in the same boat as you... still waiting for THE call or an email of rejection. Of course, let's hope for THE call!
  11. I also have the same status, "forwarded to manager" good luck to everyone!!!!
  12. jackierocks, did you get the "sorry not selected" through a formal email or was it from your status when you logged into your account?
  13. omg congrats babbu and loma6685!!!!
  14. No idea... haven't heard anything yet. It would be nice to know!
  15. I got into nursing school straight from high school and only applied once. I went to Samuel Merritt University in the Bay Area and was in the BSN program. I completed my prereqs at one of their partner schools, Mills College, and was guaranteed a spot at Samuel Merritt if I passed all my prereq classes, maintained a 3.0, and of course pass NET (this was before TEAS). Not sure if this was of any help, but best of luck!
