  1. They researched the school schedule, I suppose.
  2. It worked out well. I got an A; however, the CC I wanted to go to wouldn't accept the course because after some research, they discovered there was an online option. I took A&P at Clovis Community College because it was slightly cheaper and they allowed me to take A&P 1 and 2 at the same time. Let me know if you have any questions!
  3. Wow, I just read through 30 pages of this thread. I have to say, after being intent on going the ADN route for the last 9 months I'd much prefer to go to National now. I submitted my application for the university today. I received confirmation that it was received and processed. I'm supposed to call my adviser tomorrow to arrange to enroll in courses. I hope you might give me a run down of your entire process through national (step by step.) It'd really help my anxiety about the process. Were you able to enroll in courses before you submitted your transcripts? Did you take the CLEP for any of your credits? How much is and how often do you make tuition payments? Are you allowed to apply to the nursing program with any prerequisites in progress? Sorry for all of the questions and thanks so much in advance!
  4. I've been trying to find information as well. Does anybody on this board actually go there? I have a phone call with a counselor on Saturday and am interested in the prelicensure BSN.
  5. mharper, From what I understand, one needs a CNA certificate in order to be accepted into the program. Is it also necessary to be employed as a CNA? I have an Associates (not in nursing) and can obtain a CNA certification in a semester. Since it is my intention to become an RN, I don't plan to actually become employed as a CNA. Is actual work experience required for admission into the program?
  6. Most schools are eliminating their wait lists because there has been changes in the State Legislation regarding nursing program admissions processes. Given that your grades are good (hopefully great,) you stand a great chance in gaining admittance into a school sooner than you might think. Hope this helps.
  7. Wow, caliotter3, that wasn't really encouraging nor was it helpful. On a more positive note, I'm in Temecula, so I'm right by where you plan to relocate to. I'm applying to Riverside Community College and Mt San Jacinto College. Neither maintains a wait list and accept people by way of a point system. Mt San Jacinto is strictly wait list. They're pretty particular about deadlines in terms of transcript evaluation. I'm applying for Spring 2011 and the deadline has already passed to submit transcripts for evaluation. The deadline for Fall 2011 transcript evaluation submission is December 1st. They accept 12 people for the fall, and 24 in the spring. Since space is so limited, I've heard that unless you get lucky and win a lottery spot, you need to have a 4.0. Riverside Community college awards points for prerequisite GPA as well as for your GPA in degree required courses. They also award additional points for having a degree, foreign language, and life experience. Palomar College would be the next closest ADN program. It's about a 40 minute drive south. Traffic can get kind of bad in the evenings coming home, but not too bad at all. They're in the process of moving over from a wait list system to one that is point based. By the Fall 2011 application period, 50% of the people accepted will be based upon point based criteria. Check their website for specifics. Mira Costa College is in Oceanside and not too much further than Palomar. You would travel south and then west. It would be about a 45-50 minute drive. It has also adopted a point system and is accepting 90% of applicants from their point based criteria. Here are the specifics. The other ADN programs you might consider if you're okay with an hour plus commute would be San Bernardino Valley College, College of the Desert, Grossmont College and Mt San Antonio College. Given traffic, anything in Orange County will run you 1.5-2 hours each way. This might be taxing, and I'd definitely do a couple of trial runs before committing to the commute. A BSN program is much easier to gain entrance to. Cal State San Marcos actually has a nursing campus in Temecula and would be very convenient for you. San Diego State is pretty far and traffic can get kind of bad. Cal State Fullerton is an option too, but you'd also be faced with bad daily traffic on the 91. Cal State San Bernardino might be a good option, but it would take about an hour each way without traffic. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me with any other questions!
  8. 1) There were quizzes every week and an exam every two or three weeks. Since I took both courses at the same time, it seemed like I had an exam every week. They weren't proctored. The quizzes weren't timed; however, the exams were. The instructor gave about a minute per question to prevent cheating. 2) It didn't seem like a lot of homework. There was an assignment plus a lab every week. The lab was basically comprised of a reading and some questions that followed. It seemed like the labs were based on medical journal articles and required us to answer hypothetical/theoretical questions regarding material that related to the chapters. 3)I believe the major exams contributed about 60% of your grade, the labs plus assignments were 20%, and the final was worth 20%. 4) See #2 5) I don't recall having any discussion requirements. We were required to log on once a week, but you'll have to anyhow in order to submit your assignments/labs/take your quizzes/exams. Hope this helps! Feel free to contact me with any other questions.
  9. I actually finished awhile back. I'm now taking communications and chemistry. I thought the classes were great. The material is challenging but I thought the instructor was very helpful and gives you a little wiggle room in class. I got two A's and am VERY relieved I did. The best part was that I only had to buy one book for both courses and had the opportunity to take both A&P I and II at the same time. It really saved me a lot of time.
  10. I'm going to apply this fall. I just had a question on whether I should take the TEAS before applying or if I should wait on a tentative acceptance? What did you all do?
  11. I'm about to start Microbiology online at NMJC. I was wondering if anybody has taken it and has any advice. Is the professor good? There isn't a lab kit, so I'm a bit confused...
  12. What causes a flag on your background check?
  13. DEFINITELY the nervous system. Our book has 3 chapters on it and we've just finished the first two. Unfortunately I got a C on the test and am feeling a bit discouraged at this point. Thankfully the next part of the nervous system is the senses and doesn't seem quite as difficult as all the brain/spinal terminology. *crosses fingers
  14. Nobody going here?
