What md hospitals will pay my loans back???
Pumpkin, Can you please explain this perkins loan stipulation for nurses? Are you saying that regardless of where you work as a nurse, that you can submit that yearly and not have to pay back the perkins loan? thanks for the clarification

will lower back problems restrict my ability to be a nurse?
I appreciate everyone's response to my question. I have decided that I am going to continue with my desire to be a nurse. I am still able to lift, stand for long periods of time, sit, etc.. but I guess I am going to have to be extra careful. I obtained this injury in the military and was able to work a very strenuous job for almost a year after the injury at which point I decided to get out and go to school full time to pursue nursing (not because of the injury). Sometimes I feel like the more active I am, the better my back feels. So, I will give it a whirl!! Thanks again for all your experienced advice.

will lower back problems restrict my ability to be a nurse?
I was hoping to get some good advice from some experienced nurses. I am currently doing my prerequisites for nursing and am hoping to actually begin the nursing program sometime in spring 08. However, I have been having lower back issues since May 2005. I have been in physical therapy and that has not really helped. My question is, how much will this restrict my abilities to do my job fully? Should I think about pursuing another career? My Microbiology instructor insists that I would be wonderful in research. This option sounds very intriguing, but, I have always wanted to be a nurse. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I have had one Xray show mild degenerative disc disorder between L5 and S1 and another one stating that my L5 is fused to S1 (a common abnormality). Thanks for all advice

You don't need to do anything for that. A good person to call is Joel Sedeno. He is in charge of the nursing applications and will walk you through everything you need to do to apply. Just be aware that they say it is a 3 month decision period but that is not true. I applied back in Oct 06 and have still yet to hear from them. I have tried calling and emailing so many times to find out what is going on and they either never return my phone call or reply to my emails. I have given up on them. I applied to for the class starting in July but since I have not heard from them, I am just going to apply to SDSU to start in the Spring. Good luck

When did you put in your application? When did you find out? I submitted my application in Oct 06 and wondering what is going on? Have not heard anything from them at all yet. This has made me wonder whether i want to go to this school at all even if i am accepted. I have also heard that their nursing students are not as knowledgeable as students going through less accelerated programs such as through the communtiy colleges.

school bookstore or barnes and noble
Just be cautious when buying books from Half.com or e-bay. Make sure you check the seller's rating and how long they have been members. And if the price really seems too good to be true then it probably is. I got scammed twice in the same semester buying books off there and not checking the credentials. The sellers would say they have brand new books (usually the newest version) for a really good price (now that i think about it- unrealistic price). You would buy it from them and never get it only to find out that they are no longer registered users on that website. Now, half.com did reimburse my money back (3 months later) but in the meantime, I had to buy the books at the bookstore. So, before the money reimbursement, I spent about $500 on books I needed. It didn't help that these were Anatomy and Physiology textbooks.

EMT course
Thanks for all the input. I really appreciate it. I believe I will go ahead and do it. The one I am looking at is an 8 week course starting around mid June. Thanks again

EMT course
I was wondering if anyone has prior experience as an EMT and if it would be beneficial to nursing school? I was thinking about taking EMT course while waiting to get into nursing school. And, to maybe get a little income coming in. Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

How many credits are too much??
I average 15 credits a semester. It still seems like it will take forever to finish my prereqs. Summer should be my last semester if I take the last four classes I need which include Organic Chem, Eng 205, Child Development, and one american institutions course. Will total 13 credits over 8 weeks. We shall see. Good luck

City College is a waitlist. GPA plays no part in selection at all, which I find pretty irritating! Anyway, yeah those colleges are too far for me to travel to.

Catzy, Which CC do you go to where grades matter? I would love to find that school close by!! I have pretty much decided that I will just go ahead and apply to SDSU for their Spring program. I have the grades for it, just need to do my volunteer work. Thanks for all your replies Christina

Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply. Thanks
