30 is not too old. nursing is fantastically rewarding. i went to a top nursing school and the nursing curriculum is hard, I say this as someone who has several degrees from other top schools and nursing was the very challenging. I would advise you to get a bsn or entry level masters as an aa prevents you from working at a huge majority of institutions. I think you will be able to make sufficient money IF you can find a job. The job market for new RN's is absolutely brutal, particularly if you live in a major metropolitan area. There is no guarantee you graduate and find a job, you can ask 3/4 of my class who graduated 6 months ago. best of luck

Northbay - I applied to both programs but during my phone interview had to choose only one so I went with adult. Both of my applications are still "in review,"and I have not been contacted. linRdsNay - Whom is your interview with? Also if you happened to apply to both, do you mind sharing what your application statuses are (had to look the plural--up thought it might be stati!)? Good luck next week, let us know how it goes! I concur. Nursing is awesome. Some of my fellow nurses--not so much--but the job is great.

I am sorry you feel so burnt out. However, if you remain indifferent to your family you might risk your personal life, which of course is your choice. Marriage is ideally predicated on mutual support and love, and hopefully your husband is supportive of you and your stresses. A stubbed toe is no way comparable to your ICU patients, however, discussing minor tribulations is part of sharing your lives together. I don't mean to rain on the support parade. I feel for you situation, I just want to point out that there are potential consequences to your burnout that you need to consider. I would talk to a professional about coping techniques and to get an independent assessment of your job/family status. I guess the question you might ask yourself is this making you happy, if not perhaps a change is in order.

Are you kidding me? you are a well paid professional and are responsible for people's lives. A million new grads would kill for your job. Get. There. On. Time. If this is too much to ask work at the DQ--which of course will fire you for being late--but at least you will not be bringing down your unit. Kudos to your PCD.

great point that the majority of people you hear from are those that do not have jobs, and are angry, this I totally believe is true. however, I graduated from a top 20 school, was one of the top students in my class. I am employed. so in one way I am a success story. But I am far and away the exception. I would advise go to the longer not accelerated program and kick a. Become involved in research, if there are no posted opertunites go to a professor and say you want to be involved. Work in a hospital, ideally as a PCT but any way. If you cant get a job volunteer, several times a week. you have to distinguish yourself from the crowd. It does not matter if you get a degree in two years but your only qualification is you education. Join the club, there are a million like you. Take longer but devote that time to making yourself exceptional. If not you'll be unemployed like the majority of my top 20 BSN class.

Sorry I was not clear. I have not received a phone message, and was hypothesizing that the reason why was because recruiters don't leave messages (I'm clearly stretching here) so was asking if anyone had received a message. If anyone has it would negating my message hypothesis, leading me to believe they are simply not interested, which is likely the case.

I do not have a cellphone and work at a number I can't take calls so am making up excuses for why they don't want to talk to me. ha
