Hi all,
i recently just just passed my boards and will be working as an lpn for the first time. I got hired at a nursing home working 12 hour shifts.
The DON mentioned that I'll be working 3 12 hour shifts and every other Saturday. My question is, for the weeks that I work Saturday, does that count towards the 3 shifts? Or is that a separate shift? So is it 6 12 hour shifts per biweekly or 7?
thanks all!

I would think 3 12 hour shifts per week PLUS a Saturday every other week so I'd say7

Yes that's an extra shift. 7. It makes the hours come out right for a 2 week pay.

Actually, this is dependent on when time 'goes in' to payroll at the facility where you work. At my workplace, time 'goes in' on Sundays, so any hours worked on Saturdays are applied to the previous week.
Hence, the DON at your facility is the only one who can answer your question with the most accuracy.
Very true. Where I work the pay period ends Saturday so the full timers work 6 one week and 7 the next.

We work 3 12's per week and every other weekend. The weekend shifts count toward your 3 12's.

Hi loriangel14, wouldn't the extra shift make it over 40 hours per week? If the Saturday was a 12 hour shift it would be 42 hours per week. Unless it was an 8 hour Saturday that would bring it to an even 40.

Well, technically it would be 48 hours. (3 shifts that are 12 hours = 36 hours + the extra 12 hour shift = 48).

We get paid for 11.25 hours.
That would still equal 45, not 42 lol.

From the way you describe it, it sounds like 6 shifts. An example of your schedule would look something like this:
Week 1: Mon, Tues, Weds
Week 2: Mon, Tues, Sat
And then repeat.
... The only way you will know is if you ask the manager.
It could be an extra mandatory overtime shift and you could end up working 7 shifts biweekly but your wording doesn't make it sound that way.
78.75 a pay. 11.25 x 7 =78.75
