Homework before school even starts

What to my wondering eyes should appear in my mailbox today? A package from school with homework and a test.

I nearly fell over. I don't start til Sept 2 and they sent me homework. I guess they are trying to prepare us. This is my first semester in an ADN program. I could see assigning us some chapters to read. They assigned 6 chapters in a book that isn't available until Aug 14th. Plus I've got over 120 math problems to do.

I am glad I got some time to work on them. I guess it just took me by surprise.

Anyone else get a homework package in the mail?

Not yet. I sure hope I don't. I'm ready and excited to get back, but I guess I'm also still enjoying being lazy. I am so ready to start learning again, but a big part of me isn't ready for the 16 hour days that I'll be putting in starting on 9-2, because between work and school that's how long my days are.

Also if i had to buy a book for homework right now, I don't know how I'd do it. I have to wait until my FA check comes in to buy the books. Maybe I'll find some rich man to marry me lol. Still waiting for that scholarship to fall from the sky. Good luck to you.

Yeah... I have 7 chapters to read in my med/surg book.........I havent even touched it yet:o I start back Aug 27th....

Specializes in Cardiothoracic Transplant Telemetry.

I don't know how other schools run things, but we get a letter at the end of every semester from each of the professors that we will have in the following session outlining their expectations, as well as the chapters that we are responsible for on day 1. Believe me, you will come to appreciate the head start!

My micro instructor got an email list for all the students (this is not an online class) and sent us course syllabus and all reading materials (articles, etc.) Strongly advised us to prep, though classes don't begin until end of August.

I am very glad for the opportunity to prep myself before class starts. I was just surprised.

I've heard that at the end of the first year, they give you a list of thing to study for the beginning of the second year.

Guess when I was a kid, summer vacation meant that. No more teachers, no more books, no more etc...... I was planning to be lazy until Sept. and just do some review.

I know my 8 y/o was sent home the last day of school with a summer homework package. So, why shouldn't I have one too?

It is kind of exciting to finally be starting on this path. It did feel like September would never come.

Good luck everyone! Berta

We have always recieved "homework" to do prior to the start of the semester. We also have an exam the first day. I haven't quite figured out the purpose in this other than "tradition". Ours are usually calculation exams or drug exams (we've got 41 drugs to memorize from what I hear but haven't recieved it yet). Only two more semesters to go and then I graduate and will never have to do it again though!!!!

Berta,

I know it stinks getting an assignment over break. I got one over every break, including spring break. When students complained it was explained to us that because we were in a 2 year program things were going to move pretty quick. I did all the assignments except one. I decided that I'd catch up later. Big mistake! I was lost for a little while. It is nice that you have a few weeks, so just do a small amount of the assignment at a time. You will be glad you did!

Best wishes to you with school!

Gator

Wishing you all the best with your homework and upcoming school year!!!

I am not sure, the lady at the bookstore told me nursing students have to do work ahead of time, but I have heard nothing from the nursing department on this!

Heidi

Specializes in med/surge.

My programme gave us 50 pages/4 chapters of reading and about 30 pages in the study guide to complete before day one. Mostly overviews of anatomy and basic chemistry.

I'm nearly finished, but that's because it's been about 20 years since I did any science :chuckle

Can't wait to get into the real stuff.

Good luck!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one!! :D We were given the assignment at registration this past spring for this fall. We can start getting books next week though. We have a few chapters and a few writing assignments to do...not sure exactly what yet.
