Before you rush off to the pharmacy to get meds filled with side effects, what are some natural grandma remedies do you know of...please share. I'll go first.

For Arthritis pain:

  1. Take a box of golden raisins. (note: they must be the golden variety, sometimes called white raisins, not ordinary black raisins).
  2. Place the raisins in a shallow container.
  3. Cover the raisins with gin.
  4. Let the raisins soak in the gin for a few weeks until the gin evaporates.
  5. You then eat nine of these drunken raisins a day to help your arthritis.

My mom and I use this remedy all the time and it works.

What do Goodys Headache Powder and Midrin contain? Always thought mixing alcohol and pain relievers was a no no.

This is a REALLY great thread!:yeah:

For kids (and adults) with diarrhea: one handful of cooked medium grain white rice, water (enough to cover rice) boil down to a soupy consistency, add salt and one umeboshi (can find in health food store or Whole Foods). Eat. This is what my Mom made us for diarrhea....seems to stop it well, can be used with as part of a BRAT diet.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

I can understand how the Altoids would clear up a stuffed nose, but what does that have to do with an inhaler?

Ok this is going to sound crazy but I Know for a fact it works (my mom told it to me and I thought she was off her rocker...but I tried it and it worked).

For small burns (usually on the fingers) when it happens, immediately place burned area on your earlobe. It takes the sting out immediately and you will not get a blister, I usually hold it there for about 1-2 minutes. Now granted this won't work if you burn your foot (unless you are talented enough to get your foot up there...which I am not) but it works great for burns on your fingers, just grab your earlobe you always have it with you!

Also for upset tummies (another one of mom's, used it on my niece all the time) if you don't have peppermint tea you can improvise with one of those candy peppermints melted in hot water :smiletea2: let it cool to where it is still warm but not hot (for the little ones) and drink. This is great for toddlers because it's sweet enough they like it and there is no piece of candy for them to choke on because it is dissolved.

Maybe mom's not crazy after all :hpygrp: !

For constipation. Mix 50% prune juice and 50% milk of mag. Within 15 min to 2 hours. Your system is clean.

Please explain - tea tree oil for MRSA?

A strange but fool-proof method for hiccups (works for me every time): Fill a glass with cool or cold water. Holding the water in your hand, bend over at your waist. Drink the full glass of water without stopping from the opposite rim of the glass you would usually drink from. It really works! I think it has something to do with counteracting the spasms in your diaphragm...:yeah:

My dad taught me this when I was little, and still do it to this day. My DH thought I was crazy until he had a bad case of hiccups and I had him do it. :lol2:

Moonshine probably should be a no no. They don't call it rotgut for nothin!

Seriously, probably shouldn't mix anything with ETOH, but when you drink everyday........

Eczema. I would suggest seeing a nautropatic. Some folks have been given either Cod Liver oil or Fish oil for eczema. There are other dietary considerations that the nautropatic will discuss. I know our naturopathic rid my son of his . Our insurance covers the visit. Need to check with your coverage. But it is still worth it . Depending on where you live check and see if you can find someone good. It will not disappear overnight but it will disappear. Good luck

My mom was a aloe vera gel freak. Everytime we had a stomach ache or burn that is what we got it tastes gross, but the gel is better than the juice.

Earaches- a baggie filled with salt warmed in microwave for a few seconds put in a wach cloth and placed behind the ears.

Stomach aches- ginger pills

Clear skin and good immune system- organic apple cider vinegar with the "mother" in it. apply to face to ease redness.

mint tea to hair for dandruff

comfrey tea (DO NOT DRINK COMFREY!) mixed with baking soda for a salve for burns or arthritis.

coconut oil- for dry skin and cracked heels.

constipation- mixture of prune juice and coffee warm.

to prevent bed sores I give a full body rubdown 2x's weekly with warmed olive or canola oil. A patient who had this had zero breakdown for 25 yrs!:yeah:

Renal Colic- A few months ago i drank 20ml of olive oil and 60ml of lemon juice. Within an hour, 5 kidney stones traveled from my kidney to my bladder, without the severe pain one could naturally expect! One of the stones was 1.5 cm, which would ordinarily land someone in the hospital on a morphine drip. It was quite an amazing remedy, but i only thought i had one stone, and then five dislodged, so approach with caution. If you ever use this, know how many stones you have in advance, and i would only recommend it for excruciating pain. It certainly worked quite well, as the movement down the ureters produced almost no pain at all!:)

WOAH! :stone:eek:

Tea Tree Oil...it's antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial. It has tons of uses from healing cuts to curing warts to getting rid of vagial yeast infections!!
