Holy Moley I failed my 1st test!

Published

I am in my third week of the 1st semster ADN program. I spent 2 weeks studying and I failed by 1 question! :crying2: I mean I knew the quiz was not what we were use to and it was the first one but sheesh! I got a 14 out of 20. I needed a 15 to pass. I know what I got wrong and why I got it wrong but I didn't think I had failed it. I know its not the end of the world and that I can fail several tests as long as I maintain a 72% for the semster overall. I was just bummed, I thought I had did ok. So my question for the other new students like me is have you taken your first test and how did you do?

Got my first ever "D" on a test this quarter, 79% on the first test. Changed my study habits and just finished the class with an A. It was stressful though. Hang in there, it will get better, you just need to learn what they want with the questions they ask.

Good luck!

I took my first test today. It was bad. I really couldn't even say how I did. It seemed to me like there was no way to rationally think through the questions that they asked. Is there a particular way to study that helps? After that test I'll take Anatomy and Physiology back any day.

I have my first test next week and another one the week after. Just wondering are study groups a help or just a waste of time? Seems like all the ones I have been in during pre reqs got off track and spent alot of time goofing off. Since I do not have alot of spare time what are the most effective ways to study. So far I spend alot of time reading and taking additional notes from books. Thanks:)

All of my instuctors told us that the tests are going to be different in nursing school compared to other coorifices, because they want to prepare you for the NCLEX. This means that there could be more than one right answer, and the ambiguity can be agravating.

Paleobug,

That is what we were told, too. It was emphasized strongly to us. We answered those kind of questions in class in groups. I was ready for them. The quiz had the old fill in the blank on some obscure fact. Grrrrrr......

I had my first test in Med Surg II last Monday and well my score was a 73 which is the lowest I had ever scored. So I am scared also about my exam on the 13th but there was so much material to cover. Almost 1/2 of the class failed. Hopefully I will not make the same mistake twice. I thought last year was hard this year is worse. well in 14 more weeks if I pass this class then the reward is OB which I want to go into.

Da%$t!

I failed a math quiz!

Let me tell you I have taken 3 whole semesters of math before nursing school and FAILED my first dos calc quiz!

I really feel like a complete idiot!

I figured that the quiz would be easy, skimmed over the things I just thought I "knew" and FAILED!

I took college level math and I FAILED!

The test had very few questions, so missing any would be detrimental, and I missed an entire section!

So, needless to say, I have felt just as bad.:crying2:

Other than that...I like nursing school so far....I just hope it doesn't count too bad against me. I've done well on everything else.

But God...what a wake up call!

At our school you have to pass the drug calculation test with a 90%. They give you two chances. If you fail the second time, you are automatically kicked out of the program. Very scary.

Just a quiz....test comes later!

Can't re-take the test though. As far as I know they don't kick you out for failing the test, but you can't progress to the next semester w/o an overall B average.

I haven't had any tests yet, very scared. I'm at community college in MD. They are trying something "new"... the semester is split into 2 consecutive classes. Only 2 tests for each class. You have to pass the 1st class in order to move on. I feel like this is a super-speedy weeding-out process. I'm scared!!

They do boast "best NCLEX passing rate in the state", but you have to wonder about all that "weeding" contributing to that!!

Well, got my first exam back on friday-got an 89.43. Studied my rear off , kids. So, it was a reality check that I am going to be really studying HARD for this class for B's! Our school doesnt round up at all, and a C starts at an 83. You have to have a C to progress. I "used" to be an A student. But, I dont care so much. I just want to know my stuff and make it through!

Good luck everyone!

Only failing by 1 point is not that bad for your first nursing exam. You now know what to expect learn from your mistakes and why you missed the questions, the important thing to do now is to forget about it and move on. I failed my first test second semester and it put the fear of god in me, I put it behind me and got a 92% on my second exam. I ended up with a B for that semester. It will get better. Good luck!

well...this is my 1st semester and i have not yet taken any tests yet. simply because all classes were cancelled because of the hurricanes in florida. however, i have been very stressed and wondering how i am going to do on my 1st dosage /iv tests. it took me 4 tries to get into this program with a 3.6 gpa. what "we" have to remember is that ...sometimes we will fail at some things. no one is perfect in this field. i have learned myself that you have to brush yourself off and try again. more than likely, it takes that 1st failing grade for a person to realize that you have to either try harder the next time or find out where you went wrong and correct your mistakes. usually ...youll get a better grade the next go round. oh yeah, and dont forget prayer, youll definitely need it! you will find a lot of support on this site, not just from students but nurses who have been thru what we are experiencing. they are truly a blessing to me. just wanted to to throw some encouraging words your way cause we all need them at times. and also remember if not anything else...and that is...we are not just in this program by luck or chance but we were chosen.
