Holy Abscess! Not for the faint of heart

Nurses General Nursing

This is quite a large abscess, kind of gross too :)

My son saw this and asked if it was real? I said it looks real to me. What do you think?

Have any of you nurses seen an abscess this bad? Worse?

All I could think of was, "geez, can you imagine what his CBC looked like?" His WBCs must have been sky high.

Don't take this the wrong way but a good wound care nurse is worth there weight in gold if they learn to breath through there ears! A must for the people in that clip! That was one of the most funk nasty things I have seen in a while...it was fantastic!

That's a peppermint gum chewing and menthol under the nose I&D.

Amazing a body can make that much puss.

On a side note, it's nice to know I'm not alone when it comes to popping zits and loving pus in general.

My dad sent this link to me. Apparently this guy developed necrotizing fascitis on his calf after a skin bx. He took these pics himself and posted them on his blog:

Just in case the I&D river of pus video wasn't enough to make you cringe. :D

fascinating. I love his humor. Gotta have that to get through that nasty wound:up:

The only thing that makes me wince is knowing how painful that must be for him.

We had an abcess at work the other day where it had tons of pus, and a bullet was removed from a pt's leg. I'm not sure about the amount of pus in this video...?

I've seen some pretty vile things, but what got me about this video was thinking of how ghastly the SMELL of that stuff must've been. Gag. Me. :barf02:

That said: My hubby has a blackhead on his back that gets full of pus and has to be popped every so often. I love popping that sucker and watching an almost solid line of that crap fly across the room.:D

This is why I love wound vacs....I have seen wounds like this (one on a sacrum that was bigger, even -- you could see the whole back of the pelvis) and after about 6 months, they heal up. It's amazing; not that long ago, I'd bet they would have just went straight to amputation of the guy's leg.

Back to the guy in the first video....wonder what caused it to begin with? And, unlike too many of the cyst/abcess videos on YouTube, at least these folks had gloves on!

Awsome, I would love to have been there in person to experience that in person.

If you guys thought Brian's video was nasty, you need to watch the one below that I came across. You pus-aficionados are going to have big O's over this one:

:redlight: WARNING: Excessive pus drainage ahead - don't press play and skip this post if you're weak-stomached!

I just went through all 8 pages wondering why no one posted the one you put up. Strong work sir!!

On night my co-worker got to assist with I&Ding a scrotal abscess. Said they got 400+ mls and that it was the worst smell ever. I ask you how can you not appreciate a good I&D??? ;)
