I work in an ICU in a for profit hospital. I think we have the worst holiday pay. First of all we only get two paid holidays a year and those are Thanksgiving day and Christmas day. The pay is from 00:01 to 11:59 pm. I work night shift so for instance when I worked on Thanksgiving I only got paid until midnight, not my entire shift. Our pay is only $5 more per hour. Even Starbucks pays their employees time and a half on holidays and they get all the major holidays. I complained to our ceo about it and he gave me some bs about how the pay is comparable to other hospitals, etc. I really don't believe that. Plus we are required to sign up for holiday shifts even though they aren't paid holidays. So for instance I had to sign up to work either new years eve or new years day but I will not be paid holiday pay for it. Anyway, I was just wondering what every other hospital does because I don't believe my ceo for a minute that the holiday pay is comparable to other hospitals.

Wow that's terrible. We have 13 paid holidays and we get paid double if we actually work them.

We have 7 paid holidays per year and if we work a holiday, the pay is double time and a half. We have to work 2 out of 4 summer holidays (memorial, labor, july 4th, and thanksgiving/day after) and then work either christmas or new years...and no, I wouldn't believe the ceo either.

I'm tempted to say you've got to be kidding me, but after reading this board for more than a year, I've seen all too many posts detailing the terrible wage packages offered by hospitals like yours.
You work in a non-union shop, I presume. I left a union job in another industry to go to nursing school. I gave up 10 paid holidays a year; those who must work on holidays are paid double time for the first eight hours on the job, and the hourly rate goes up after that. I also gave up 20 paid sick days, six weeks' paid vacation and a salary that was roughly 50 percent more than I'll earn as an entry-level nurse.
Don't get me wrong: I'm happy to be in school, and I'm grateful that my old job enabled me to put enough money to take two years off. But why do nurses put up with such terrible working conditions? If I were the OP, I'd be calling a union organizer, pronto. You can bet that nurse's hospital administrator gets more than two holidays a year.

We get 3 holidays paid at time and a half: Thanksgiving, Xmas and New Years Day. Then we get $2.00 more on 3 others: like Labor Day, 4th of July.

at my facility, you 10% holiday differential if you work it + paid day off, and you just get a paid day off if you don't work it

My hospital is nonunion. We get 6 paid holidays. You get paid normal pay if you don't work it and you get double and a half pay if you work it for up to 8 hours.

The company that I work for does not offer any holiday pay whatsoever. If I wish to be paid on a holiday, I must use my PTO (paid time off). In addition, I am only permitted to use PTO on the six major holidays: New Year's, Memorial, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If I run out of PTO hours, I simply do not get paid for the holiday.
