I have decided to start a thread for HCC future nurses that are applying for class beginning 2015 of spring. I would like us all to be able to share and relate to one another, while experiencing this exciting moment. I know it may seem a little early but better sooner then later. This will be my last semester before I can apply to the program. I am registered to take micro with lab and humanities fall 2014. I will be able to submit my application in right after my grades are posted. The deadline for the 2015 spring class is June 1st if I am not mistaken. How is everyone else holding up?

The TEAS is not that bad. I took the TEAS V a couple years ago. I didn't study for it and I did well. I wouldn't want to spend all that money on the study material when we're going to have to spend money on the nursing study material. The science portion was the hard part for me but if you've taken your science pre-reqs for nursing, you'd be fine.

IHopeIGetIt,

Well the test itself is an additional $50.00 added to the fee for the application. Yea the science portion is hard, also if you are like myself and many others the Math is also going to be a challenge , its been over 7 years since I took college algebra. The test is an additional stress factor, I agree with SILVACH they are making this program that much harder to get into. Thank God for our Anon status on this website because this is total BULLSH__YT! For mothers like myself, who not only have children to look after, work and the maintenance of a home is just way too much.

Like I said before thank Goodness!!!!!!

Yes ! I agree 100%

Julianasmom, do you have all your prerequisites done?

I'm finishing up Micro and A&P 2 this semester.

I've read a lot of the posts pertaining to HCC and their process, and how students have reacted to it. Talking about driving yourself crazy...It's good to know what to expect and hopefully our anxiety level won't be as high. I'm going to take as much control over the process as I can and then let go. Whatever will be will be.

We seem to be in the same boat: wanting Nights/Weekends, having kids, working while going to school.

Yes im with u guys... I have a family of 5.. 3 kids myself and fiancé. And of course house to maintain, food and dinners to cook. I work also. And I go to school. Im a mad house here. This weekend is hell for me. I habe lab final exam on thursday and a paper due 3 pages tuesday on a play I am seeing today. I have a regular test on thursday as well

Can't believe 2 weeks away. . Super excited! I'm taking Spanish this summer but may drop it to focus on relaxing before the fall , we shall see

IDK I don't find the TEAS V that big of deal to add on, esp since a lot of programs already have it as part of their requirements. You can get the official study guide on amazon for 28$. Nearly half of what it costs on the ATI website. Or you can rent it from barns and noble for like $17 for 60 days. So there are affordable options.

I think they are specifically increasing their requirements *because* they are getting so many applicants. Its another thing to help make acceptance easier on their part. Another layer to weed out applicants.

Agreed. And their minimum score of 60% is nothing, I got a 75 the first time I took it, and that was before I got the ATI book. Nonetheless this group is lucky to not need it.

I am also applying for Spring 2015...this will be my third attempt. I have a 3.43 and last spring was chosen as an alternate at was 8 people away from getting in last time I had checked. This past fall semester I was just completely denied. I am really hoping that 3rd time will be the charm but I definitely don't think anyone is safe with a 3.4. I have a "C" in an English from almost 15 years ago which is pulling my GPA down and their doesn't seem to be much I can do to increase my GPA. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I also am a mother of 3 and would be working full time while going to school and am hoping to get into the night/weekend program. Fingers crossed.

@jessiab - with the deadline for spring being June 1, there is not really any time to take or retake classes. Some people have said that if you take a higher math class, it will replace w/e your current math is. But if you already have an A in it, that wouldn't help. Also, I don't even know if this is 100% true, haven't checked with advising. Either way, deadline is in a month.

The TEAS test might actually help you out if you were able to test well. Maybe it would weed out some of the people ahead of you giving you a better chance. Something to think about.
