I have decided to start a thread for HCC future nurses that are applying for class beginning 2015 of spring. I would like us all to be able to share and relate to one another, while experiencing this exciting moment. I know it may seem a little early but better sooner then later. This will be my last semester before I can apply to the program. I am registered to take micro with lab and humanities fall 2014. I will be able to submit my application in right after my grades are posted. The deadline for the 2015 spring class is June 1st if I am not mistaken. How is everyone else holding up?
Is there anyone who is also applying to SPC Spring 2015? I live in Pinellas County and plan to apply to both HCC evenings in Dale Mabry and SPC/Baycare EAYL. I'd prefer to attend SPC through the EAYL so I wouldn't have to work full-time and I'd be guaranteed a job afterwards, which is key since it's so hard to get a job as a new RN. However, if I didn't get into the EAYL, I think the evening program at HCC would be more conducive to a full-time work schedule.

EAYL is Earn As You Learn. Baycare pays for tuition/books and pay you a small stipend in return for you working at least two shifts per pay period once you are a CNA and you work for them for 2 years after becoming licensed. If they don't have any openings once you graduate, I don't think you have to pay them back. If people don't get in to SPC on their own they often have a second chance through the EAYL since SPC leaves some spots opened for Baycare. Of course Baycare hires from within first, though.
There's a little more to it but that's the gist.
Well they recently updated the nursing website, and now it's under this list of requirements for admissions. So basically starting next year after Jan 15, 2015 everyone trying to get into the program must take the TEAS. Thank goodness we don't have to take it, its not an easy test, its 3 hours and they test you on:
Math
Science
English
It's not basic stuff either and all the different supplemental learning material is crazy expensive ! Just thank Goodness we don't have to take it.
