Hello all,
I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.
What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.
Hey Guys,
I haven't been on since the summer. I am almost finished with NP1 at PC days. I see you guys got your letters and are going to orientation very shortly. Congrats to all that got in, and keep at it to all that are still working towards it. One of the main reasons I wanted to post on here is to offer you guys some words of encouragement...mostly because you may hear some horror stories about how difficult and miserable nursing school is from students that are further ahead (NP2, 3, 4). I did, and it scared me to death. But, I chose to ignore those stories (mostly because if I didn't, I would have had a nervous break-down before I even got going good). The truth is, it is simply an adjustment. There is a ton of reading and you have to adjust to the critical thinking style questions on the exams. My toughest obstacle in the beginning was the feelings of isolation due to all the time needed to read and study. But, after a while, I adjusted and am happy to tell you that it is not as tough and grueling as you will hear. Know that there will be an adjustment period and then you will get in a groove, and will be just fine. I have 3 weeks and 2 exams left, and have an A (for the moment...lol)...it can be done. Don't beat yourself up if you don't maintain an A. C=RN...that doesn't mean that you are a slacker...many of my (very intelligent) classmates have C's. It all depends on how much you have on your plate- work, kids, etc. Anyway, I just wanted to give you guys some words of wisdom. When you hear the negative crap, IGNORE IT and push forward! Negativity breeds negativity! Believe in yourself!

This is exactly what I needed to hear, thank you. I have a close friend in np4 and she said the same thing. We need more encouragement and not horror stories, which I ALWAYS brush off. I'm so happy to hear your doing well and I wish you the best of luck in the rest of your studies!

Thanks so much for your insight. I have 2 kids at home (23 month old and my hubby ) and I work full-time and plan on juggling all of this as far into nursing as I can go. I've been going crazy wondering how I'm going to continue working and being a mom/wife. Also I'm down for Starbucks next week :)

Ok so it seems Starbucks is the place to meet. How about Wednesday evening the night before orientation.

I live in Tampa near the Zoo. Monday and Wednesday are Mommy's Night Out days so either one is perfect. Barnes and Nobles has a Starbucks in every location I think...There are Carrollwood, Brandon, Clearwater and South Tampa locations to choose from.

I'm easy to spot. Find Felix and Rosaly, and I'm the big bald dude with a baseball cap and shorts on following behind them like a lost puppy dog talking to himself
.
My God I am predictable...
