Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

While I'm thinking about it...

Is anyone else working towards (or about to receive) their A.A. in Allied Health from HCC? I'll graduate this Fall and receive my diploma with 69 credit hours completed. My worry is this: supposedly there is a Florida law that you can only accumulate 125% credit hours towards your degree before its considered 'excess hours'. With the nursing program being 40+ credits, I'll be around 109 credits prior to starting my BSN (which is another 35+ credit hours). I'm starting to worry that I'm going to bump up against this psudeo-"wall" before receiving my BSN and as a result be charged this 'surcharge' -- and possibly loose some of my financial aid funding.

... or I'm just worrying for nothing

Thoughts? Comments?

Well from the financial aid website it says that you can get 12 full time semesters done until financial aid will stop covering the classes. I'm getting my AA in allied health also, all I will have left is connections which because I'm on financial aid they told me not to take it until my last semester at HCC because I will be auto graduated before i finish the nursing program. Financial aid told me this though but I don't know how true it is.

So if you're auto-graduated does it affect your enrollment in the nursing program? Ugh. I wish advising was more clear about this, they all seem to give different answers and different suggestions.

I'm now thinking I should un-register myself for Connections before the semester starts...

Ugh I know it's confusing :-0

I was wondering the same thing. I will have exactly 60 credits at the end of the FAll semester, so i decided to hold off on taking Connections until next summer so i would not auto graduate. I figured i would just consentrate on Nursing NP1 in the Spring and then when we are on break during the Summer i could knock out Connections & Stats to complete my AA. After that all thats remaining is to finish the ADN and transfer straight to USF for the RN to BSN transition. Thankfully, I will have allready completed my liberal arts and foreign language classes that USF requires for the BSN so all i will need to do is the Nursing transition classes.

Indeed it is. At times, I've wondered if they are all on the same page. I met with an adviser last semester for a "graduation check", and he assured me that people have no problem with the transition. However, I've heard from various sources that agree with what you were told by financial aid.

Yup. That's my case as well, FX. I've got all the BSN nursing prereq's done already and plan to directly transition into the RN->BSN program (and most likely ARNP afterwards). Perhaps I'll hold out on my connections class until next summer as well just to make sure there are no snafu's in this whole process.

Can you tell I'm paranoid about something going wrong? Too many horror stories about things that either HCC forgot to mention or enacted after people were accepted :nailbiting:.

Whelp, I took everyone's advice and dropped my IDS-2110/Connections class and will wait for next Summer. Thanks for the timely words of wisdom!

That was the best thing to do. We're not going anywhere for the next 2 years so there is no hurry to comnplete the AA now unless you need it for work or something. After NP1 is complete i will talk to the advisors to see what they recommend. I just want to make sure i dont get auto graduated in the Fall thats why im not taking connections.

I hear you, FX. I really appreciate yours and Juleby's advice about the whole thing. Nope, I don't have any plans for the AA other than a completion thing. Additionally, I can't imagine running into a roadblock just because HCC "auto-graduates" me.

I really hope our little 'family' here has the same cohort -- I could use people like you all to keep me on the straight-and-narrow and to bounce ideas off of. I'm too old to make a wrong turn someplace in this labyrinth and have any delays; my family is counting on me (and has sacrificed enough) for that to happen.

Thanks again..

Noworries, we are all in this together for the long haul. If you plan on doingnights/weekends then we will be in the same class along with Juleby1987. I’malso much older than the majority of my classmates but I like it because theykeep me feeling young. Plus, I love anything related to the medical field so tome it’s not hard at all. When you love what you are doing it’s not consideredwork. Im sure there will be those days when we get challenged, but Im looking forward to it. No Pain, No Gain. Bring it on!!

Yup! I'm the same way. It sure beats my old career in software development. So much more dynamic and fascinating as opposed to sitting in a cube all day staring at a computer monitor so that the 'man' can make some money. :blackeye:

All of my documents are not received. Does anyone's look like this?
