Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

All of mine are as of last week, mjmh. However, one of my buddies from last semester still hasn't had all of his documents reviewed yet either. I wouldn't worry just yet (I know its hard.. trust me). Some of last semester's applicant's (search for the thread) didn't have theirs marked as reviewed until literally right before the acceptance letters went out.

Hang in there.. I'm sure it will happen soon.

Guys and Gals:

Part of my summer reading has been to find real-life stories of nurses portrayed in print and see how I react to them. I've read:

* "Tending Lives" by Echo Heron

* "Intensive Care: The Story of a Nurse" by Echo Heron

* "A Nurses Story: Life, Death, and In-Between In an Intensive Care Unit" by Tilda Schalof

* "I Wasn't Strong Like This When I Started Out: True Stories of Becoming A Nurse"

They have all been powerful. We have got a pretty awesome journey ahead of us...

I'm going to have to read some before classes start next week, thanks! I also get a lot of amazing stories from my older sister who has been an RN for the past 10 years. She's been a nurse since I was about fifteen so I've been hearing about how inspiring nursing can be for a long time, and she has great advice. Advantages of being a younger sibling:-)

FYI Guys:

Just spent 2 hours at Financial Aid this AM because of a computer glitch on HCC's part -- it will wipe your Financial Aid and tell you that your on "Suspended FA Status. Supposedly it's a computer glitch that makes WebAdvisor think that you've exhausted your FA availability.

Check your school email/WebAdvisor accounts!!

Sorry about grammar .. On iPhone.

Ugh just checked, same here.hwat do I do now?

Go to any FA office - Explain the issue and have them refer to "Peter" at SouthShore and the "nursing applicant" problem. Hound em!

Could it have anything to do with me changing majors?

Don't think so. I didn't change mine. He said its affected lots of applicants but they don't know how many.

Well I guess I better put the ps3 away and get dressed Lol wish me luck!

Good luck... my wait at South Shore FM was about 15 minutes long. I know that DM FA is swamped with 2 hour wait times. If you can do an alternate campus, you might find less of a wait time to speak with someone.

Ugh. This whole thing is crazy... I am going to need a margarita or two tonight!

Did they resolve it though??

They said that it would be resolved by the 15th by the end-of-business; but that they didn't know how many students were affected. It seemed like they were relying on people to self-report the issue rather than finding out who was affected -- shoddy response in my eyes, playing with people's futures like that.
