Hillsborough Community College - Spring 2014

Published

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

So we have a little over 1 week remaining before we officially start our new journey as student nurses'. How are you feeling? Are you nervous yet? Did you get all your reading assignments done? Im starting to get a little anxious, cant wait to get back into the class room. What are your plans for your final week before the madness starts? Im going to try and relax as much as possible and clear my mind of anything negative so that im fresh come next Monday. I'll study up untill Wend or Thurs then im done. I will spend my final free weekend with my wife and kids doing whatever it is they want. I plan on taking the first day of class off from my job so i can sleep in and then go enjoy my spa gift certificate my wife gave me for Christmas, afterwards i will have a lunch date with the wife..:)..and then go to school a little early. See you guys & gals next week...

Unfortunately my class (DM N/W) has not received any info regarding hospital online training yet. Try and use Firefox if you have it, or go to the "help"section on the bay care web site and see what browsers are supported. Another thing you can do is update your IE to IE9 and verify that its configured correctly. Post the link to the bare care online training and I will check to see if it works with IE9.

anyone receive reading assignment for south shore?

Im in DM N/W and we got our reading assignments a couple weeks ago. I would guess it would be simular for all campus NP1 students. Good Luck....

Hi everyone, My name is Charmaine. I am going to be applying to the program may 2014 for the spring 2015 class. Seeing that you guys have been through so much already, is there anything you wish you knew before time? anything that you can share to help me help my 2015 group? I got a few things from your post but there is so much its crazy. any advice is greatly appreciated. my GPA is at a 3.6 right now and i am taking micro and humanities this spring. If I get all A'S I should be at a 3.7. Also any things I should no about applications and classes. just anything at all about anything.

Thank you :)

Hello, Charmaaine,

It was not too long ago i was in your position, scrolling through this website absorbing as much information as i could find. It gets overwhelming real fast. I know you are very eager to to start the process but make sure you don’t lose focus on what’s currently most important. Micro/ Micro Lab are both nursing programs pre-reqs, so it’s critical that you focus on doing your very best in those class’s and get an “A” so that you bring your GPA up. As for the application process, make sure you double/triple check all your docs and start gathering any transcripts that you may need from other schools if needed. We had a couple current HCC nursing students jump on our post and help guide us through the process and we will do the same for you guys when the time comes. For now just stays focused on the task at hand and enjoy whatever free time you have because that will all come to an end real fast. As you can see from my previous post, we have over 15 chapters of reading to cover before the first day of class next week so we are all buried in the books studying. Good luck to you......

Thank you so much for your advice! Congratulations on your acceptance and your new journey that starts next week. I will most definitely focus on micro and lab. I hear it's pretty tough. Wow that sounds overwhelming, 15 chapters! Oh my. I wish you all the very best of luck. I have been doing my pre req's for 3 years now. I am a mom of 3, I work part time, and go to school part time. I understand this is a full time program. I will be cutting my hours back to 24 hours a week. Is anyone else still working while in the program?

They advise you in orientation not to work while in the program because there is a ton of reading, assignments, volunteer work, classes and clinicals. It's very hard to balance all that, work and a family. However, everyone is different and if you can do it,that's great. Not everyone can stop working, but if you can it's recommended. I have kids but I only work 8 hours a week so I can still have time to take them to the park, play with them etc.
