U.S.A. Florida

Hello all,

I wanted to start a thread for those applying to HCC's Spring 2014 nursing program. I am a stay at home mom. I know its early but I wanted to get as much info as possible. The deadline isn't until 6/1. I'm a current HCC student. My pre-req GPA is 3.57 (all A's 1 B and 1 C ), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program.

What is everyone elses GPA? I heard its lower for the Spring.

Hi everyone, My name is Charmaine. I am going to be applying to the program may 2014 for the spring 2015 class. Seeing that you guys have been through so much already, is there anything you wish you knew before time? anything that you can share to help me help my 2015 group? I got a few things from your post but there is so much its crazy. any advice is greatly appreciated. my GPA is at a 3.6 right now and i am taking micro and humanities this spring. If I get all A'S I should be at a 3.7. Also any things I should no about applications and classes. just anything at all about anything.

Thank you :)

Hello, Charmaaine,

It was not too long ago i was in your position, scrolling through this website absorbing as much information as i could find. It gets overwhelming real fast. I know you are very eager to to start the process but make sure you don’t lose focus on what’s currently most important. Micro/ Micro Lab are both nursing programs pre-reqs, so it’s critical that you focus on doing your very best in those class’s and get an “A” so that you bring your GPA up. As for the application process, make sure you double/triple check all your docs and start gathering any transcripts that you may need from other schools if needed. We had a couple current HCC nursing students jump on our post and help guide us through the process and we will do the same for you guys when the time comes. For now just stays focused on the task at hand and enjoy whatever free time you have because that will all come to an end real fast. As you can see from my previous post, we have over 15 chapters of reading to cover before the first day of class next week so we are all buried in the books studying. Good luck to you......

Thank you so much for your advice! Congratulations on your acceptance and your new journey that starts next week. I will most definitely focus on micro and lab. I hear it's pretty tough. Wow that sounds overwhelming, 15 chapters! Oh my. I wish you all the very best of luck. I have been doing my pre req's for 3 years now. I am a mom of 3, I work part time, and go to school part time. I understand this is a full time program. I will be cutting my hours back to 24 hours a week. Is anyone else still working while in the program?

They advise you in orientation not to work while in the program because there is a ton of reading, assignments, volunteer work, classes and clinicals. It's very hard to balance all that, work and a family. However, everyone is different and if you can do it,that's great. Not everyone can stop working, but if you can it's recommended. I have kids but I only work 8 hours a week so I can still have time to take them to the park, play with them etc.

Thats great! And a great idea, I may pick up a waitresses job and go from there... me and my fiance have talked about me not working. . I just would need to make sure he has bills covered. But I ratger work one day a week to keep extra funds available even if its not much. Thank u for the heads up I am grateful

HIIIII EVERYONE!! Our first class is in just a few days. I hope everyone is prepared. With my wedding and moving to a new apartment, I really fell behind in reading. But am playing catch up. Thank god for being a CNA already. Really just have to worry about Clinical Calculations. Anyways, I have a question. Has anyone NOT ordered their badges yet???? I just got my last name changed, so I wanted to get badges with my new name on them, which I'm ordering tomorrow. I still have to change my name with the school, so I hope that won't affect the badge thing. I was just wondering though if anyone else was behind on that??

Also, is anyone becoming a bit nervous now that the syllabus is up for our classes?? I'm already beginning to feel overwhelmed, and hope I'm not alone on this. Well, I hope NO ONE is nervous, but I doubt that. :/ Where are you, stress buddies?? ;)

Hi there, what do the syllabus look like your first week of class? How many chapters are on the agenda for the week? When do u get placed and begin internship in a hospital? I'm in my last semester before applying to the program. I'm very curious and would like to be prepared for anything and everything I can.

Thank u for sharing what you can :)

Hi jragghianti,

Its been a long break so im ready to get back to class and start the process. I was a little worried when i reviewed the sylabus and saw all the assignments, papers, volunteer hrs,lab hrs, and everything else we have too do this semester. Then i got a call from a freind that starts NP3 this semester and she gave me a pep talk and assured me that it will be okay (I needed that). She said as long as you set your priorities in advance and dont falll behind with assignments you will be good to go. Dont worry so much on what grade you get, ie. A, B, C, its all about the point system and getting to the magic #, each assignment is worth x# of points. Good luck everyone. This is what we've been waiting for, the time is here, "WE CAN DO THIS"!!! See you all on Wednesday....:)

I am at DM campus and we are all meeting tomorrow at 8:00am. First time she said in nursing lab but she never gave a specific room number or building number? Anyone know where we are supposed to meet? Thanks.
