Hillsborough Community College Spring 2009

Published

I am an alternate for HCC Dale Mabry campus. I am not yet in the program. This is my third time as an alternate, so; I don't want to be too optimistic. I found out that starting last week the school was going to be notifying alternates if they have a spring 2009 seat. I am wondering if anyone has heard that they are in yet. I am very nervous, and I would appreciate any information. Thank you

:yeah:

Ok Thanks Starfish1. When I say equipment I mean do we need our own stethoscope or a watch with a second hand, things of that sort. Is there anything that we are required to have of our own to get through the nursing program?

sure, sorry you will need the watch with a second hand as well as the stethescope, which will be included in the bag for lab that you can purchase in the book store

good luck

sure, there are some people that do work. I don't I tried it for 2 weeks and couldn't handle it- unfortunately I am one of the ones who takes a while to learn things and during these semesters all I do is really focus on school. As for the math- it is very basic math- I am not great at math either but know you will do just fine. I would, like you said, read those perry and potter chapters, there are not too many meds first semester and nothing that isnt tolerable when the time comes....you will do great!!!let me know if you have any more questions

what campuses is everyone attending/applying to? i just want to get an idea on where everyone goes. thanks. :)

I am currently in NP2 at Dale Mabry day program

Thanks Starfish1. Did you purchase the bag for the lab from the bookstore or is that an optional purchase? What else is included in the bag? Can you purchase your own stethescope or watch?

Hmm there are things like syringes in the bag, foley kits, all for you to practice. you are in the lab for the first 5-6 weeks in NP1 where you will learn about injections, BP etc. I paid $110 for the bag, I think you can just purchase the BP cuff, stethescope and watch on your own, but may want to check...I'd hate to see you buy one then they make the purchase mandatory, you know?

Hi all how are you? I am looking to get into the Fall 2009 day program at HCC and am so scared! I believe that I was heaven sent to this site as I have read that there are so many people going through the same feelings as I am! Scared, excited, nervous, what have you. My GPA is not all that great but, I believe in miracles and there is a God of miracles! What is the GPA for an alternate or a regular student? When will be find out for the Fall 2009 class whether or not we will begin? I never did contact anyone about my application but saw that my check that I had written for the 53.00 dollars had been cleared. I took it in mind that my application was received! i sure hope by the correct person! I am trying to teach myself pharmacology, reviewing my A&P and Mirobiology as it has been quite a while since I have taken them. I applied to HCC's nursing program in 2006 but didn't get accepted. I then left the country to do some mission work for 18 months, returned, updated my records with the school, and then reapplied to the nursing program. This will be my second time around so hopefully something happens! I am just curious to know when we'll hear something, and how many students are accepted, so forth. Can anyone help me? you all are great and seem like you will be great nurses!

Honestly, I dont know...I am currently in my second semester This week is our spring break and I wouldnt expect anything for at least another week. My neighbor also applied for the Fall 2009 program and as of this past week she hadn't heard anything either, I would just send them a quick e-mail today or Monday...I know last year I found out earlier than they are notifying people this time around...I don't know why.

good luck to you, keep me updated

I can answer any questions or concerns about the program if you have any!

I have contacted HCC and I was told the acceptance letters would be mailed out at the end of this month. I too saw they cashed my check but I could not get anyone to say whether my app was complete or had an error on it or anything. It's like trying to get info from the CIA. Keep the faith. I'm sure when they get back from break they will compile their list and start mailing the letters. I do my best to tell myself to chill until the first week of April. If i hear anything ill be sure to post. I'm trying for the evening program, since I have a full time job and a family!

Good luck to ya!

It's a very exciting time but very nerve wrecking as well. I have decided to take it upon myself to begin rereading my A&P and Microbiology as it has been such a long time since I have take the two. I also am teaching myself a little of pharmacology. What other tips can you help me with to be better prepared for my first semester when i begin? I was thinking about sending in an application for the spring semester and I know you have to send it in by June 1st because i don't really know as of now when i can expect to hear something. The other thought is well what if i send in my application for the spring as a back up plan and get accepted into the August program! When you got into the nursing program what were the average gpa's? How many times did you have to apply? This will be my 2nd attempt but with a year and a half break in between the first time i applied! I hope that doesn't give me 'negative' points towards the committe that choses the prospective students.

Oh, how organized is the nursing program? I read something about you basically have to learn the different medications on your own and that they just 'expect' you to know and learn them on your own. What materials can I seek to be able to get a jump start?

They accept people based on GPA..The Spring cut off was around 3.1. Or so i heard

Hi! I also applied for the fall semester! I emailed them on 3/10 and asked when they were going to send out the letters, she said they were hoping to do it by the end of that week, but that it could also be after spring break. Guess it's after spring break! So hopefully this week maybe. I'm making myself absolutely insane with the waiting!

I also have a question for those of you who already attend...I applied for the day fall program at dale mabry. i am thinking though that i may want to switch to the evening program in the spring (for np II). Is this possible? I wasn't sure how it worked if you wanted to switch from day to evening. Of course this is all if i get in :)

I'm glad I found you guys! I had started a thread on the pre-nursing board looking for anyone else who applied for the fall.
