Hey everyone!
I hadn't seen a thread started yet for the fall '16 entry to the program and thought I would start one, since the application deadline is only 2 months away. I'm excited and nervous about the process....just hoping my GPA is good enough to get in. I've taken the TEAS V and just finishing up my last pre-req to apply. I'm currently in North Dakota and will be retiring from the Air Force next year. So, that alone is frustrating since I have to call or e-mail with any questions.
Who else is applying?
Chris
Yes it would be great to knock out your sciences first and math a&p 1, math and maybe micro depending on how comfortable you are with science. I know sociology is super fun and easy as well as English so I'm not sure if your a person who likes to go at a slow pace or jump right in I just overall love science and sociology not English so much. My husband did the technical route so you have a little more info since your husband has already attended let me know how it goes and how plant city campus is!
I love it so far. We are not allowed to put instructors names here but if you look at this semester you will know who she is. Also my clinical instructor is different from lecture because I go to clinicals on Friday. The Friday clinical instructor is also a full time nurse and she is awesome. This semester we have lecture from 8-11 on Monday and Tuesday. We have 3 simulations in the lab on Wednesday's throughout the semester and the date is different depending on your assignment (you will understand this part when you start) and a mass casualty exercise with Hillsborough County. Then depending on whether you have clinicals on Thursday or Friday you will be at Southbay for NPI. Two weeks this semester we have clinicals the same week as simulation so we have school 4 days those weeks. This is for South Shore only as other campuses are different. It takes A LOT of study time to be successful. Be ready to give up a little bit of your social lives to do well. I also talked to an NP4 student who told us that NP2 is quadruple the work of NPI, which is a little intimidating but if it was easy everyone would do it. That person also told us to avoid the combined semesters between USF and HCC because a lot of the ones doing that are barely passing and some even have failed a semester because it was to much work. There will be a day in April that is a Health Fair and we will be doing presentations in room 105 which is the nurse lab. Come in and talk to us and let us know if you are doing the program. Everyone in my class is cool as hell and would be more than willing to talk to you. Also, I read you guys were wondering about campus assignments. If you picked South Shore not many people want that campus because it is so far outside Tampa. You will get your assignments a few weeks after your acceptance letter. I know this seems like a lot of information and it may sound like a lot of work but it will be worth it in the end. Hope this helps some of you. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Oh, I'm not discouraged :) I was considering the concurrent program, but the advisors seemed to not know much about it, so I was apprehensive about doing it. It was nice getting some insight from you though, as it helped me make a decision. I definitely don't want the added stress or the possibility of jeopardizing my grades. I can completely see why some students cannot keep up with both, it seems like way too much.

Sounds great! I'm hoping to get with an advisor tomorrow. I've been down the HCC road before with my husband when he went to paramedic school there, so I know how chaotic it can be to get things figured out. I'm gonna go plant myself there in person (in Plant City) and hopefully leave with a schedule and a game plan. I'd love any advice!
